i checked out the 4 relays behind the left panel, (and the one under the hood) they were all good. there doesn't seem to be any power running through the solenoid...not sure why.....is there a fuse...

hmmm thanks for the advice but im still pretty confused as to what the problem could be. The dashboard lights came up when i put the new key in, and as soon as i tried to start it, everything went...

A little update...i waited until it got nice to pull out that starter. After much cursing, i checked the solenoid (wires looked good....there was no way there wasnt any contact) and the motor looked...

Yeah i cleaned every bit of corrosion off....and the batts were 12+ V according to my trusty multimeter....im gonna go to the store right now and i look into a new starter.

Hey thanks for the quick reply. I cleaned and checked the battery and ground leads and wiring, and looked at the starter ground....which seemed okay.....i suspect that the starter is actually broken,...
