Re: Congrats are in order...

Congratulations, Phill!

Spoiling daughters is almost as much fun as working on a school bus. I can remember when my minion was looking out at the world, angry about being here.

Somethings...

door gasketry?

Here's a new one...

Our plan for Declaration of Independence is to keep the school-bus door. It works, and if gasketed better, should be fine, particularly with how well-insulated this booger is...

Re: Paint...and more paint...and more paint...

There are problems, as I see it, with using a chemical stripping method; the biggest of those is that doing it where she is currently sitting would create a toxic bog under the bus that could take...

Re: Engine swap or alternative fuels a possibility?

I can see why. Geez. I also ended up on https://binderbulletin.org, which was almost as bad, but I did find the information I needed.

Seems that IH 304 and 345 engines of the era were built to...

Re: Engine swap or alternative fuels a possibility?

Since E85 is available exactly nowhere in my community (unless I'm willing to homebrew it....90 gallons per ton of corn; uhm... no.), propane is probably the best bet.

On my old 304 engine,...

Engine swap or alternative fuels a possibility?

Work on my Declaration of Independence continues nicely; I'm about to get body work, done, start getting ready for paint, etc, and rewiring many, many things...

The biggest downer I have about my...

Re: Paint...and more paint...and more paint...

Matt:

Just in case no one tells you this today, you're nuts! A razor? Really now... For thick, gloopy paint jobs, I could see taking a layer or two off with that, but I fortunately don't...

Paint...and more paint...and more paint...

My bus has had a very troubled existence...started out as a school bus, then a couple of different churches (each of which repainted her, badly), and finally a hunting cabin (whose owners painted the...

Re: Sticking stuff to bare/painted metal?

Since this isn't a smooth area, but the dash, which is lumpy all over, doing a wood frame thing probably would be contra-indicated. My plan is to do the dash and the frame around the dash, replacing...

Re: Sticking stuff to bare/painted metal?

Thanks for the tips, guys. I was thinking of some sort of construction adhesive, which would also be very stout, but 3M's spray glue may well do the deed. I'm going to sand away any peeling paint...

Sticking stuff to bare/painted metal?

I've seen people sticking carpet up on the inside walls of their skoolies, etc...I've got some black pleather (vinyl leather-textured stuff) that I'd like to stick on some metal surfaces of my bus. ...

Re: Declaration of Independence

I found drilling the rivets out worked much better for me then grinding them off.[/quote]

In getting started the last two nights, I've found out the same thing. Might be variations in technique...

Got started...I have a lengthy list...

I started peeling skin out this evening--and sure enough, there's not a *shred* of insulation in there, so it looks like I made a good call taking all that off. But, as other threads have noted,...

Re: Declaration of Independence

I've updated my blog, at https://daves-old-bus.blogspot.com. We finished the gutting of the interior, and it looks *wonderfully* empty.

Declaration of Independence finally comes home!

After about three weekends of back-and-forth, monkeying with carb gaskets and such, Declaration of Independence finally got to come home. Fifty mile drive, and after the first ten square-tire miles,...

Declaration of Independence

I've been lurking here, and elsewhere, for a good while now, and dreaming, and thinking how cool it'd be to have a skoolie as an RV.

Random chance gave me the opportunity, and a mighty big...
