Re: The Journey Visvi 1999 Thomas MVP ER

Nice stuff with the bus cote.

I think I remember windshield wiper motors being an issue on these but I thought it was the motor itself not the switch. But I could definitely see that turning into...

Re: The Journey Visvi 1999 Thomas MVP ER

This is pretty much how I did the plywood walls in mine, you should be good. I did 1" (actual) thick 1x3s horizontally across the walls every 18" and used the same self-tapping #10 screws. Once ply...

Re: The Journey Visvi 1999 Thomas MVP ER

Chrysler has had issues with quality ever since the mid 80's. They have had known design flaws that they refuse to fix (minivan transmissions, neutral safety switch, seat belt buckles, ball joints,...

Re: The Journey Visvi 1999 Thomas MVP ER

That's about how I feel. People have asked me (usually older businessman type people who live in a bubble) what I will do if something expensive fails, I say "uhh...I fix it" (idiot). If my motor...

Re: The Journey Visvi 1999 Thomas MVP ER

Scour Craigslist for diesel gens, I found mine for $300 (dude didn't know what he had). Granted it's air cooled and very loud but it's a real yanmar from 1994 and has a built in fuel pump / parker...

Re: The Journey Visvi 1999 Thomas MVP ER

It's a bit late to re-think this now, isn't it? It looks plenty sturdy to me. I'd rather roll in wm's bus than in a winnebago!

But for real don't roll it.

Re: The Journey Visvi 1999 Thomas MVP ER

That is a lot of $ in fuel for heating! If I was going to live in my bus during cold months I'd absolutely put in a wood stove. Glad to see it is keeping warm though.

Re: The Journey Visvi 1999 Thomas MVP ER

I was wondering about this. With it looped into the engine permanently you're heating that whole 1000lb+ hunk of iron, like trying to melt an iceberg with a candle. A simple cutoff and bypass will...

Looking great! I can't wait until I get my next paycheck so I can start insulating too. Can I have your scraps? :D

I was looking into doing a wood stove for a while too. This is when I was...

Re: The Journey Visvi 1999 Thomas MVP ER

Funny, mine didn't work either. Neither did the brake / tail light, both were totally waterlogged. LED time!

Re: The Journey Visvi 1999 Thomas MVP ER

Montgomery county does not use salt on their roads. Frederick county does and you should see the rust on their buses. Be glad you got the bus you have.

I have three holes, the rear is small, not...

Re: The Journey Visvi 1999 Thomas MVP ER

That looks awesome. If the body filler doesn't work to fill the gaps, try urethane based seam sealer. I bought some of it from amazon (they also sell it at autozone) and it comes in a caulk tube. It...

Re: The Journey Visvi 1999 Thomas MVP ER

It is the DEWALT 5.5-Amp Jig Saw that made the difference. I use to have a cheap RIDGID jig saw. The blades twisted and made it hard to stay on line. I know I will be making a lot of cuts both in...

Re: The Journey Visvi 1999 Thomas MVP ER

I apologize if I missed it but what jigsaw blades have you been using to cut through that steel, and how have they been working? I want to buy the good stuff for when I need to deal with sheet metal.

Re: The Journey Visvi 1999 Thomas MVP ER

I actually went to see wmkbailey's bus a few weeks ago, after he had gutted all the seats and interior panels but before he started cutting the roof. This particular model bus (late 90's Thomas MVP)...
