Just got back from a local auto paint shop...no luck. It appears to be a defunct DuPont number that is not in their system. I will try going direct to DuPont and see what I can find out there. Whatever I wind up with, I want it to be something I can get some touch-up mixed down the road.
This '36 Caddy color (Colonial Cream) and one I saw on Tom Mix's restored coffin-nosed Cord are my fav's so far but are naturally hard to track down.
Damn all this candy, metallic crap!!!

the cream will look good with her curves...I hate the old curvy bodies when they go metallics and candy....those colors are for late 50's and 60's straight panel cars

Thanks Jack but that is where I got the number that no one can find. So far, anyway. Just sent a note to Axalta Coating Systems (formerly DuPont Performance Coatings...they just sold their auto paint division). Maybe they can come up with a new number or at least the correct mix formula. We'll see.
Finally picked up my replacement body panels today. Been way too wet & cold for the outdoor sandblasting shop to work the past month or so. Will start hanging (welding) them shortly.
ONWARD!

Tango you have a very cool build ...love the old rides.
I have a brother that builds muscle cars for the wealthy...way outta my league!
One of the builds he has worked on was a '56 F-100 .....56hauler.com if you get a chance.... out of your busy schedule.

Mighty sweet Redd! --- The '56 is my favorite Ford PU of all time and that one is amazing. Just wish I had a fraction of the budget that rascal was built on. I wouldn't mind having a fraction of the skills required as well.
Your Bro did good! Thanks for sharing.

More Baby Steps...
Finally got my body panels back from the sandblaster. Was too cold & wet here for him to work outdoors for a few weeks but we got a break at last. I am replacing all the interior panels as well as the exterior from just below the windows down. I was in no rush to get them on until most of the underbody work was pretty much complete. Much easier dealing with tanks and axles and such with the sides open.
Anyhow, below are the driver side interior panels. They have two coats of white ceramic insulating paint on both sides plus a layer of the bubblewrap/mylar type insulation. The outer panels will have two coats of the ceramic paint but only on the inside. How well does it insulate? We'll see. But the example I saw here on an old tin roof convinced me it was mighty effective.
Onward!

Looking good Tango. You sure do nice tidy work. Wish we were a little closer together--it would be fun to come play in your sandbox. Jack

Opus, I can see how you might enjoy watching Hap pea and Pea wee the un- identical twins trying to pull together their 140 years combined experience into a bus build. On the other hand we'd probably just sit around drinking beer and telling war stories--not. Jack

Well --- I got the remaining exterior body panels primed/painted today. Since I am welding them in place, I have to clean the weld edges to bare metal then shoot some weld-through primer on. Being in super humid Houston, anything left unpainted for 6 or more hours will rust down to nothing.
Hope to start (finally) putting the outer panels on over the next few days/weeks depending on weather. Too cold and there is the risk of "oil canning". Got a lot of welding to do but with any luck should having it look less like a skeleton soon.
Onward!

Tiny Victories --- You ever have some little project that for whatever reason you sweat bullets over? This was one. The cover for my fuel fill neck. No big deal right? Fabbing the metal took a couple of tries to get it to properly fit the tiny amount of curve present in the walls of this rig. Then came aligning the cutouts in both the inner and outer skins. And since all the pieces were in different stages of finish, it wasn't really until today that I confirmed whether it would all fit together or not. Thank goodness...it fit. So much more still to do but at least that one weight is lifted.
And here is what the inner skins look like...from the outside. Double coats of ceramic insulating paint on each side plus a layer of mylar bubble wrap. Now I can finally start putting some outer skin on this thing!
Onward!

Hey Tango, its really starting to come together for you. How are you going to affix the new outside body panels (did I read you were going to weld them)? What luck have you had finding windows? Jack
