Re: Pink Floyd Bus
Two steps forward one step back..
Note: Do not store spray paint in the driveway..
It was my lucky day today when I was pulling into my driveway on my lunch break and......... pop...... I ran over a can of orange spray paint.. The front driver side of my 2013 Tacoma is a mess.. The corner of my house got a fresh coat of orange and in my frustration what do I decide to do..? Kick the exploded can of spray paint into my freshly painted bus making my small disaster just that much worse.
Touch up on the bus is underway currently.. and the taco gets to wait until next Tuesday for some TLC.. Hopefully the power-washer will take care of the house..
Feeling slightly discouraged with the project at this point.. Hopefully things turn around sooner then later..
Wish me LUCK...!.!.!
Has anyone else had a frustrating setback they would be willing to share..? Maybe it would help me to feel like I am not alone in the frustrations of converting a skoolie.. And I like good stories.

Re: Pink Floyd Bus
I did the same thing.
I was changing my brakes on my Subaru in the alley beside my house. I didn't have a coat hanger to suspend the brake caliper on when I removed it, but I DID have a can of exterior, oil-based, house trim paint, partially used. So I set the caliper on that while I worked on it. Packed up all the rest of my tools, hopped in the car and POP! re-painted my house and passenger side of my car, Jackson Pollack style. I didn't bother with the pavement in the alley, but scrubbed down the brick in the alley with paint stripper. Ugh. Those specks of paint stripper burn when they hit your skin - and the little cavities in the brick hold paint like nobody's business. Forget the car! 14 years old and almost 200,000 miles it'll be wearing white speckles until I drive it to the scrapyard (in another 6 years, hopefully).

Re: Pink Floyd Bus
This one really came out nice.. Some final touches happened on this part yesterday. Can you believe that about 95% of it was done with spray paint.?

Re: Pink Floyd Bus
Frustrating setbacks......Well, there was the quick brake reline that turned into a complete replacement....there was the small piece of rotted door frame that grew to a large section of completely de-laminated body fiberglass....there was the small oil drip that became a turbocharger rebuild and a new transmission oil pan....ummmm, what else? For a while there I was calling our bus "Leaky Lucy" because several body seams and most of the windows leaked....There was the small puddle of water on the floor that led to a replaced windshield. Oh yeah, after repairing and repainting my cracked fiberglass battery box I clipped a small stump and smashed it even worse than it was in the beginning.
I think most of us, at one time or another, wondered just what the hell we'd gotten ourselves into.

I am convinced that all, full frame-off restorations began with..."all it needs is a quick fix on this one thing here...".

Re: Pink Floyd Bus
So my girlfriend and I have been talking about setting off on a long trip next summer with the Floyd bus with teardrop in tow. One of the stops we are considering is Burning Man at Black Rock city in Nevada. I am looking for any suggestions that would make my bus more "desert friendly." Also what precautions should I take in making sure my bus is ready for the 6 thousand mile round trip from Providence to Nevada. (the last thing I need is to be stranded with my bus almost 3000 miles from home)

Re: Pink Floyd Bus
Great shades of "Further" !!! --- Outstanding rig. It appears to be about a 1938 International. And given there are so few around, I also have to wonder if it is the same one I turned some folks onto a couple of years ago that came from the same hippie campground as my '46 Chevy. They even said they were planning on doing kind of a tribute to the bus "Further".
If you are not familiar with that bus...The Merry Pranksters...Neal Cassady...or The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test...look here...

Far Out!
Thanks for sharing.

Re: Pink Floyd Bus
Tango.. I am quite familiar with this bus.. This particular version of "Furthur" was made by Ken Kesey's son who has been touring all summer as a 50th anniversary commemoration of the trip that became an icon of the psychedelic 1960s. Here is a picture of it next to the original Furthur pulled from the woods a few years back.. Pretty cool to see it in my home town..

Re: Pink Floyd Bus
By any chance do you know if he bought it from the campground near Monroe, Utah? I handed off the info on that '39 IH to someone a few years ago. Would love to know if this is it. Looks freakin awesome.

Re: Pink Floyd Bus
Hey Mike (Freebyrd) I'm glad you found my forum. We are hoping to get the last of the paint completed this week and next.. Keep an eye out for pictures..
Tango.. Don't quote me on this, but I am pretty sure Further 2.0 is a 1947 IH.. Couldn't tell ya where they found it. I do agree it looks freaking awesome. Even better in person.

It definitely has Floydian overtones that fall on the dark side. Sweet!
