What is the tan runner that I see down the middle of the floor? Mine is black and cracked from age but my wife wants to keep it for the "bus affect". Yours looks great!

Thumbs up

That has to be the best use of color to make a skoolie not look like a school bus. I'm not generally a fan of leaving a school bus yellow and I'm not sure if it would meet the Indiana,or any other state that doesn't allow school bus "chrome" yellow reqirement, but yours looks really nice. Well done.

I would be very careful about how you have the bus loaded.

Those little tires can't carry as much weight as any 22.5" tire. You need to make sure you are not going overweight.

A friend of mine had a Blue Bird All American FE. I mentioned to him the need to weigh his bus before you had everything in place. He didn't think he was going to have any problems but he got his bus weighed anyway.

He discovered that he wasn't anywhere close to being overweight for the GVWR of the bus but he was getting way to close to the front axle weight rating.

The engines of FE buses are considerably further forward than on a Type 'C' bus or truck. If you notice instead of the engine being over the front axle the engine is so far forward that the transmission is more than halfway forward of the front axle. This puts a lot of load forward of the front axle. If you have other heavy stuff between the axles you can overload the front axle.

Good luck and happy trails.

Thanks Cowlitz.

These 1000s have ballast weights behind the rear axle.

I have added nothing to the front of any consequence. In the rear I have added 4 group 31s (300 lb.) and 40 gal. water (300+)and an Onan 4KW (217)w/10 gal. gas (60 lb.). I have removed the 300 (or so) lb. WC lift. To avoid LIGHTENING the front axle too much I have also removed 1 ballast from the rear. The front is higher than when I 1st got it, enough to see it without measuring.

I selected this design because of the 19.5 tires.

"Those little tires can't carry as much weight as any 22.5" tire. " True but...

Our bus has 265/75/19.5 tires and they are rated at about 3415 lb. single.
A typical MH sized 225/70/22.5 is rated at about 3640 single.

As a "usetabe" bus driver This BB handles beautifully.

I plan to weigh her when I get to a scale, there's nothing near us out here in the AZ boondocks!

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Today I installed a wireless rear view camera..... awesome! Wired it on a switch and run it when needed not just while backing.

Great build! More detail on the water heater that you went with. I may have found teh one I will use but not sure. I found a 4 gallon 110v unit at Home Depot by Ariston. It is the GL4S model. I haven't check the reviews yet but the size and price seemed right.

HB, thank you.
I tried 2 of the HD ones you are considering, in the 6 gal size but they BOTH leaked after install. 1 leaked within the insulating jacked and 1 leaked at the fittings. HD did refund w/o question.
I went to LOWES and got a 6 gal. conventional 120v unit and am very pleased.

Thanks for the input. I won't bother with the original idea then. I prefer tried and true. Thats the good thing about this forum.

I changed oil to TSC Traveller 10-40 and right away I have a quieter idle and fast idle.

No idea what oil the PO used but I sure like this so far.

There are any number of "home" appliances that will work just fine in RV's, but bear in mind, none of them were designed to be bounced around day in and day out and stay together. The better quality RV equipment will. Especially important with anything that is holding fluids.

FWIW, our bus has the hot WX package; 2 AC units, white roof, tinted windows and extra insulation.

Today it was parked in direct sun, all windows and doors shut all day. 1/2 the curtains were open. No AC or fans on. The rear of the bus was facing the SW.

Ambient high temp. was 78.8 with a slight breeze, at that temp. inside was 78.5.
