Re: The Brown Crown

I have a Honda eu3000 generator mounted under the bus in what was the Crown's spare tire area. It vented to the outside, but under the vehicle which posed a safety problem with carbon monxide when you were sitting still. I have alarms inside the cabin, but I wasn't comfortable with it. So I spent the last few days building an exhaust system. The eu3000 has a unique exhasut port, but an aftermarket shroud is now available for them. So I bought one of those. Then I built an exhaust pipe out of flexibe aluminum rated to 400 degrees. Routed that under the bus and out to the port side. The pipe diameter is 5 and 6 inch to reduce the backpressure from the extension.

Seems to be working on its test run today, so I happy with the results and a much better feeling of safety. Just a reminder to all, not a good idea to leave any generator running all night, and ALWAYS have detectors on board.

Here are a few pics of my work.

Sorry my wiring isn't as pretty as most I've seen here on skoolie...I'll make it prettier someday

Oh, and I also got a new toy at Camping World...a motion dected porch light mounted near the front door

Re: The Brown Crown

I like the light, at the last CG we stayed at almost all the new coaches/5-R's had motion detected lights....everymorning at 5am when I went to the bathhouse the "street" and yards where lit up like Vegas or Times SQ ...and I actually slept in an extra 1/2 hr....old habits are hard to break....

Oh do you have an extension to go up with the exhaust?
.
.
Side exit can actually "poison" the neighbors , we had several die last couple years at BMS....all the contractor gennies behindrv's and trailers.

Be safe in Cali'

Bansil, this is my project for the rest of the week...just cogitating on a way to secure it to the side without having to put up permanent brackets and drill holes in the side and roof of the bus. There is a rain channel that runs along the top, and the lower rub rail is hollow on the bottom, so I'm thinking I can design brackets similar to those kind that were on the old style trailer mirrors that you could put on a car.

Gen-turi Generator Exhaust System works really well and is attached by bungee cords.

Re: The Brown Crown

The Brown Crown is finally at middle age. Instead of 15 to 20 years of life like a Blue Bird, Thomas, etc., the Crowns will last 50 to 60 years or more. Happy Birthday Brown Crown.

First, Brown Crown, happy birthday to your beautiful (one of my favorite builds) bus! But on another note, (above quote) my Blue Bird, at almost 28 years young, is still going strong... just sayin.

Re: The Brown Crown

My experience with our many clients is that the other transit style school busses simply don't have the life span in daily active school service like the older Crowns. Blue Birds and other brands used as conversions are not getting the daily stress and wear they did when being used as school busses. As RV's, I suspect they will last for many, many years.

Two retired Crowns are sitting on the lot. One says to the other-"aahh-its going to be great-I'm getting bought as RV-no more kids kicking the back of my seats." "Ummmm-you know what the first thing they are going to do with your seats?" "THEY ARE GOING TO WHAT TO MY SEATS?!?!"

We can only hope... and keep the wheels moving', or as my grandson says, "go round and round".

Re: The Brown Crown

Began a major renovation to BC today. Spent my mid-day doing demo work on the bus. I had a nice dinette I had built which became nothing more than a catch-all. I never used it. So the dinette came out this morning. The couch will be moved into its space from the starboard side of the bus to the port side. The swivel chair will be placed over the starboard front wheel well where the couch was, along with another swivel chair I will put in after I can buy it. A fold up table will be between the two chairs for eating and the computer. The space between the present couch and TV/Bathroom wall will become a Wet Bar with a second refrigerator with small sink and cabinet space. I will also do an upgrade on the electrical, and insulation which I also stripped out.

As it looks now

Demo work

Re: The Brown Crown

Thank you! This is why I didn’t even plan for a dinette in my conversion—I knew I wouldn’t use it and I certainly knew I would never have to seat four people for a meal. I have two perfectly good seats right up front with great views through a giant windshield. It doesn’t get better than that.
