Cheers ! Figured there's only one way to do it. When I get the panels up top and the box done I'll have it made in the shade literally. With the side panels blocking the sun and the solar panels blocking the sun, the bus roof should be cold in the shade. I'll also have nice venting for the panels to keep them cool with a constant cross breeze, leaving gaps between the side panels and inbetween all the panels to allow ventilation out the wazoo. Haven't seen anyone else make shade for their entire roof but I bet it's going to be nice for keeping cool

Question Cutting Steel

Happy Easter everyone ! Have a question regarding cutting steel on a curve, figured I would use cardboard and cut it to use as a template to trace over the steel for my curves. Whats the best way to cut 16ga sheet on a curve, I've been using a grinder wheel and I have a feeling it's not gonna cut it for the rear and front end caps.

I invested in a set of power shears from Northern Tool. They are $50 and work really well.

You can also use a jigsaw with a good metal blade.

Juice

Hey everyone it’s been a while figured I would post some new stuffs. Changed the front I’ll post a pic of the grill soon, looks much more bad ass.

Highly recommend pioneer mini splits.

They are beyond super efficient when vacuumed down to 20 microns. They were rated to pull 7-9 amps or average 750w each at 500 microns and with my install have only been using 3.5 - 4 amps, ~350w each even in turbo mode. Air temp coming out of each unit is 34 degrees.

I added surface insensitive loctite 243 to keep the line set sealed. It’s really bulletproof.

Also highly recommend Henry’s tropical silicone paint as well. That stuff is absolute magic for heat deterrance. Where my roof was hot to the touch outside is now completely cold even in direct sunlight. The metal would reach 120 degrees on the roof with the silicone paint it averages mid 70s.

Cranked up the solar which has been cool, the solar rack being lifted really blocks the sun and keeps the roof cold, it’s super easy to ac even with all the windows being uninsulated. Thankfully the mini splits also prevent any moisture buildup, the windows do not frost at all even with it being 60 inside and 90 outside.

Gonna paint her soon ! Man I can’t wait to take this beast on a trip.

Beefy :)

Top grill was a lot of work but regular sheet metal looked horrible.

Smile Pictures of build

Well most of my pictures have disappeared for some reason and I cannot go back to edit my old posts and relink so here’s a link to the entire album if anyone wishes to see the method to my madness.

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1O5...s-C49Z-9jzfV2k

Still building her up! Built a nifty horizontal murphy bed frame.
Still gotta preach Tesla batteries and mini splits are the way to go. The added effect of having complete shade on the roof from the solar with spray insulation and radiant is phenomenal for interior comfort. I added a J1772 plug from Tucsonev.com to charge as most chargers are free in my area if I ever need it. Haven’t needed it yet it but my goal is to buy a wrecked Tesla again and belt drive the motor onto my drive train and make it a completely solar bus. Cheers guys! Keep the builds going, love seeing progress!
