2002 bluebird cannot move as brakes are locked

I have a 2002 bluebird handybus. It is 32' has the 5.9 and Allison automatic 6 speed. The bus runs fine, the air pressures both front and rear build to about 110 psi. Today I attempted to put it in my garage for the winter to continue working on it since it's getting cold out, but when I started it and the air pressure built, the brakes wouldn't release. There is a red light on dash that comes on every time you press the brakes, I understand that is normal, but now I can't get that light to go off since the brakes won't release. The light even stays on after the engine is shut down and key is removed. It stays on until the batteries die.
Anybody out there have a clue what the heck might be going on.
Thank you!

Re: 2002 bluebird cannot move as brakes are locked

first off SAFETY FIRST

sounds like your rear drums are stuck due to rust or water, the semi metallic drum linings can rust to the drums, mine does it a few times a year

do not skimp on this step!!!!

block all tires front and back, you do not want the bus to be able to roll over you!!!

once blocked, fire bus up and build air pressure, release brakes with park knob (just like you'll drive it)

grab a 3 pound sledge hammer and a pc of 1/2 or 3/4 dia metal rod about 12 inches long (an old socket extension can work)

crawl under bus, be careful the bus can move/jerk when brakes release

look at rear brakes and you can see the shoes, notice if the pads are still touching the drum, if they are set the rod on top of shoe so the end is against the shoe ->_i hit rod very hard and quick a few hits should "pop" it loose

repeat on the other 3 shoes (2 each side)

Thank you for your reply! I will give that a try and go from there. It sounds like a logical answer to my issue. I hope it works! I will post my results.
Again, thank you.

Sometimes just rocking back and forth will break the brakes loose. Like the man said, be safe!

I release the parking brake and jab the foot pedal to the floor and let go. That always brakes them free. Thats an old Eagle trick.

Ha, sorry, I meant to jab the brake pedal, not that go pedal. You hot rodder!
