As for auto swaps--the most straightforward path IMO is buying the entire engine/tranny combo. I think you are money ahead vs. piecing together all the sensors and such to get a computerized tranny working on a two-wire engine.

Depends, from my research so far, most of them use a self contained controller that only needs a throttle position sensor so the tranny knows what the engine is doing.
+10000000000 on the manual swap. Don't think that's possible on a flat nose FE bus? LOVE to swap in a G56 out of a newer ram. Had one in my 07 3/4 4x4 cummins ram and that tranny was a beast!
