Wiper arm for 83 Ward bus
Thought I would post again.
If anyone knows where I can get one... used or new.... I need a driver side wiper for a 1983 Ward bus. The only part I need is the tension spring that keeps it against the windshield but I seriously doubt they sell that alone.
So if you know a donor bus that has one.... Let me know. I will try and post a pic of mine and what I need.

You might look here: http://commerce1.cera.net/tacbusparts/s ... cat_id=120 .
For springs: have you tried a hardware store? Some have an assortment of springs.

Ditto the above.
I went out and took a look at mine, it's a Thomas, but I'd guess they're at least similar, and it looked pretty much like the spring I got at Ace for my door.
They have a cabinet with a coupla drawers full of different sizes, tension, end configuration, etc.

I will snap a pic here shortly and see if this is possible.

Re: Wiper arm for 83 Ward bus
Finally got a pic of the wiper.. no its not the best but here ya go....
By the looks of it. It has a nut on the outside of the wiper that keeps the whole arm one. Im going to take both of them off and take them to the hardware store and put something on there. It looks like a pretty simple spring.
Thanks for all those who have helped.

Re: Wiper arm for 83 Ward bus
Well I took the wiper off today (both of them) and it seems a few parts are more broken than first thought. So I am going to have to have a new or used assembly.
Here is a pic of the wipers
Here is a pic of the splined side...
Front side
I am thinking of using these guys. Seems they have a few things plus they are semi local.
http://www.onestopbusstop.com/buspag...-frameset.html
Another source that looks like they have what I need is this
http://www.directbus.com/URLrewrite....p/16-44020.htm
Not sure if these arms are semi universal on what they can attach to but this will be a major step in getting it inspected. Only other part needed.... exhaust pipe work.

Re: Wiper arm for 83 Ward bus
I would use the second one. They have free shipping on orders over $1000.

Re: Wiper arm for 83 Ward bus
Keith
These were on the bus when I bought it. It has been missing a spring the whole time. I am just trying to get it "right." Im not one to use cheap crap. It may take me forever to get what I want but doing things half assed is not my deal.
I dont have much experience with bus wipers. Being a 1983 model I would imagine there are not tons of them still on the road or arround?

Re: Wiper arm for 83 Ward bus
the bus wipers will be just like some of the old truck ones that you can easily find in the wrecking yards that have the old 2ton trucks.

Re: Wiper arm for 83 Ward bus
We have a NAPA store here. I buy my duramax filters from them. So yes Im familuar with them. The price does not scare me at all if thats what they cost thats what they cost. I have to trust others who have done it before to avoid the headaches.
I assume yours use the same type of wiper? Do you have a part number if this is the case?
I know the 2nd parts link... If that is the correct arm its 16.45 each. Probably with shipping and a blade it will be close to the same.
Let me know if you can help me out on that arm if its the same?
BTW what is nut tape?

Re: Wiper arm for 83 Ward bus
Well the wiper arm saga has come to an end. After talking to several parts companies on the web... I finally found one (locally of all things here in the Fort Worth area) that has got me what I needed.
Turns out this wiper arm was a hodge podge of a couple of things. Its a press on wiper that was drilled out so that it could be mounted on the pivots. This is why this has been the biggest pain in the ass.
Here is the old and new wipers......
I would like to encourage every one to use this business. These guys worked for over 3 weeks to find what I needed. Here is the web address http://buckswheel.com/
I walked in their warehouse and its packed with TONS of items ready to ship. Some of them for much older buses like mine (1983 model) so I can not say enough good things about Rodger and Sandra there. They did an outstanding job.
Ok on to the exhaust to get that fixed so I can get it legal on the road again.
Thanks for everyones help on this issue.

Re: Wiper arm for 83 Ward bus
I've seen that website before. Sucks that he doesn't list prices. Calling to get prices for every part you want is a drag.

Re: Wiper arm for 83 Ward bus
Its a pain in the ass but to be honest with all the time they spent in on looking for this part I told him... I didnt care what it costs with in reason but I was pleasantly surprized with the amount. I got two whole new arms shipped to my house for less that 50 dollars.
Call them up Rodger even took my call on his cell phone while he was at some school district.

The price on the wipers was more than fair. I just like to know what the price will be when I want to buy something. 35 years of buying auto parts, I'm tired of playing the pricing game. Walk into a store with no prices and you have to go to the counter every time you want to know the price of something. I'm done with that.

Re: Wiper arm for 83 Ward bus
Totally understand what your saying. What pisses me off more is people on ebay when you buy something and the shipping is more than the item. I bought a remote for a JVC car stereo for 3.99 and didnt notice that the shipping was 12.00. I was like.... wtf. His reply was its the only way he can make money. My reply was I am not really interested in you making money. So yeah check the shipping prices.
