ospho is also good for etching into galvanizing before paint. I've used it since bodyshop class when I was 17.

Be glad you took that class! I can't begin to count the number of people I've chatted over the years who had no idea you couldn't paint directly over galvanization and wound up with royal messes. Today there are "self-etching" primers but I still "pickle" the surface first.

Been shopping for potable and grey water tanks, kind of pricey. I've noticed that there are lots of plastic 55 gallon drums available in my area, does anyone have experience utilizing the drums for storage? I have a fair amount of space under the Neb since it is rear engine.

I've seen them used before.
I may explore this option as well.

Scored solar panels yesterday on ebay for a ridiculous price, the sellers is taking offers, I got 4 150w 12v panels new $132 each. Here is the auction, if you are interested, less than $1.00 a watt is great, .88 per watt is amazing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-POWER-CRYS...item19f39d9948

I hear you. Neither my bus, nor my garage-shop are heated and we've had sub-zero weather here. Too cold for much of anything bus-related, so my brain is just working on all the stuff I'll be doing after it warms up ...

Being a Solar Dunce I had to look these up. Can't find out squat about the company that makes them ( "NPower?) but it appears to be a brand that Northern Tool sells so it must be Chinese. Anyone here know any more about them? Does sound like an awfully good deal if the product is reasonable.

Hi,
Does anyone know about envirolet composting toilets, I've tracked down a great deal on a new one, it is the non-electric model? I like the idea of not using my clean water for flushing and not not installing a black water tank

I was put on to a site called "Natures Head" composting toilets , that would be the route I'm going.

Don't know about the envirolet but I like the idea of the separett with the splitting of the solids/liquids so very easy cleanup due to not creating raw sewage from fermenting crap. It's expensive but they all are about a grand, if I'm gonna spend that much on a shitter might as well go for the throne.
I believe you don't need to sit down on the separett to piss into the diverter as long as the trap door is closed. If anyone has one of these and can confirm I would love to know before I try contacting them about purchasing one soon.

Hi all,
There is a marine dealer not horribly far from me that sells holding tanks which is good because shipping for these things is ridiculous. Anyway I'm not sure that the stock fitting are exactly where I'll need them, can anyone tell me how they have added fitting to blank tanks? I've seen threaded bulk head type fittings online and some folks talk about gluing fitting on?
Thank you

I'd be a buyer on a composting toilet if they weren't so ungodly expensive. No way am I gonna spend half as much on a head as I did on my bus. I'll be buying the Dometic 310 and a tank.

On polypropylene tanks you can't glue fittings on you have to put the fittings on with
a process called spin welding which uses friction to create enough heat to weld the pieces together. If you go to Inca Plastics they have a spin welding kit that you can buy for really reasonable prices. I got their 3 in one spin-weld adapter to fit onto my angle grinder with a half dozen fittings for less than $20. They also make an adapter to fit a 1 1/2 hp Router. Check out their web site they have a demo on how they do
spin welding.

Well its snowing again, can't get much done, next step is Ospho on the floor and its not warm enough, so I've been shopping. Found a truck tool box yesterday (18"x 18"x 36") to mount underneath for my battery bank. Also picked up 3 bed frames (paid $20 for one the other 2 were free) to fab my water tank supports. I know not everyone is a fan of the steel used for the bed frames but I work with a professional welder who will guide me with settings that will produce a good weld.

So what do you do if you need to check measurements for water tanks and there is snow on the ground, dig of course Made a cardboard mock tank for height and width just to make sure.
