A Transformer is a object which turns a high-voltage into a low-voltage, or vice versa (Low to High). They size from Small ones which are in TV Sets, which turns a 120-Volt circuit to a 12 Volt Circuit, to huge ones which transforms Thousends of Volts into 240-Volts (home operable). Most ones found inside your house turn 120 Volts into 12 Volts, or 240 Volts into 120 Volts. Without a Transformer, most electronics inside, outside of your home, including your viechle, would not be able to operate because of too much voltage (which would probably trip a circuit breaker or blow a fuse continusly). A Transformer consists of a Iron or Ferrite core, with a Electromagnet, as well as Terminals (Contact/Test Points).

How It Works!

The "Positive", "Hot", or Load Side of the transformer is the Input Voltage. It goes through a electromagnet, which the electromagnetic field transforms the Load Voltage into th Output Voltage, which can be less or more than the Load Voltage. One that has more than the load voltage is called a "Step-Up Transformer" and a Transformer that has less than the load voltage is called a "Step-Down Transformer".
