Project Niles Skoolie
Hi there everyone, some awesome inspiration on here. I am looking forward to getting this project underway.
Chris and Kat and we are from Ontario, Canada
The Bus we purchased:
1999 BlueBird International 3800 with a DT466E Diesel, 72 passenger, with around 250K on it.
This bus just came out of service from its school route. It was maintained rather well and had the records of maintenance with it which was awesome.
Anyway enough blabbing, here are some photos of the bus.

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Because we have over a foot of snow and the tires are froze to the ground shes taking a bit to get her out of where it was parked. Its soooooo hard waiting for it to get home. We spent last night working on layout to pass the time hehe.

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Having a bit of a time trying to figure out what actual license i require in Ontario to drive it without passengers. The DMV said class C but they transferred me to 3 different people so i am not confident i got the answer i needed. I have read so many other places a G will be fine unless i am towing. Insurance will be the next task....
It won't be home until the second week in march so i have some time to plan this out. If anyone else in Ontario has done this input would be great...
Here is my last project i did and what this bus will be towing...

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
I got mine from a truck recycling company who buys them in bulk from school auctions then resells them if they are in good shape or they recycle them. I paid 3000 for this one but i have heard you can get them cheaper if you can go to the auctions. I was lucky to get this one because they were just processing the last 10 buses, and by processing I mean complete dis assembly and they do 4 per day. One good thing is there is tons of parts for these there but its sad seeing perfectly good buses get torn apart for scrap weight. I think he mentioned the shell alone was worth 1600 with no engine and there getting 2000 for the engines used because of the low KM's.
There was one other bluebird there at the time i purchased but it is most likely gone by now as it was early last week. He mentioned they wouldn't have more till after school season is over this year.
Tango, yeah backing down is worse then going up lol...

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Its a fill size 72 passenger bus so its pretty big. Good luck finding your bus!
I tried the 3D program i saw someone else using on here Sketch UP. Wasn't too bad after the first hour of using it.
Here is the first revisions:
I am planning on removing the main door and installing the door midway back so the entry is in the kitchen area more like an RV. That way my wife will be up front buckled up like i am while we drive.
Similar to this one:

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
The white "sample" rig with the stainless basement storage is one very cool unit. Easy too see why you were inspired by it. I'd love to see more of it. Is there a "build thread" anywhere about how/who put it together?

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
I found the photos of that one on Pirate 4x4 ( http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/general- ... tions.html )
So far I have not seen a build thread on it. There are a lot of nice toy haulers. Most of my friends use goose neck trailers and convert them to living / haulers. I can't see myself offroading too many more years so i would rather the comfort and customization of something i can explore with.

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
That is a great looking bus indeed. I don't know what type of business they're in, but that stainless around the bottom must have cost them a fortune. Have you seen the price of a sheet of stainless lately? Don't look if you don't want to be shocked.

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Awesome I hope you guys get one!!!! its so much like Christmas as a kid lol.
So was up to the trucking yard today and she is dug out and ready for delivery tomorrow. I didn't get to see the sides where it was parked before so i wanted to inspect it before i paid the final amount. All looks good. in total it came it 3940.00 wich included taxes and 300 for delivery fee but i got a hole second set of tires and 3 extra heavy duty batteries and jumping cables to attach them all together. If anyone is in the Ontario area a great bunch of guys very helpful.
It will be here in t minus 10 hours... so excited can you tell lol
