two more questions

would you take a measuring device and do two more things, measure center to center two of the wheel studs, I am expecting a distance of 8 to 9 inches.. and look at the center opening of the wheel, does it look like the rim/wheel is being centered on the big middle part of the wheel? or do you think the wheel nuts have the little cone shape on them and the wheel nuts are holding the wheel centered?

Oh yea I do see the split behind the valve stem, so yes these are real split rims, and also the outer ring is one piece giveing further proof. Tire shops are not going to like these.

This is a Dayton style wheel, but older. Mighty small brake drums. What condition are the brakes on this? Seeing the weeds, have you just pulled it out of the weeds and are fixing it up, or is it currently driveable? If it is not drivable finding parts for an original brake system could be a bit of a problem. It has taken two months now for me to get parts for the brakes on my 71 international. I have them working good now as of today.

uuuuuu okay so I think

you just need the dayton rims the newer stuff...

hey everyone.... those look like dayton adapters....

I think that international had six bolt wheels to start with and at some time someone put on adapters.....

If those are indeed six lug to dayton adapters, they are very hard to come by these days.

anyways look here at the bottom of page 17 there are 19.5rims and 22.5 rims that I think will fit your bus.... after you take off the adapters.

https://www.accuridewheelendsolution...ummer-2011.pdf

or leave the adapters on and use newer dayton rims.

I just read a thread about dayton adapters for old trucks 48 to late 50,s One fellow bought a whole truck just to get the adapters.

should have a dog behind it. so the lug nut holds the dog in place to hold the rim. Most are not conical seat, however you may be right and yours are. I have seen both.

the six bolts

I am expecting them to measure 8.75" from stud to stud. with tapered seat lug nuts..... Means those freightliner mt 45 wheels will fit. and likely, if you want to keep the look, many axles will fit and you get to keep the same bolt pattern as original

It has definitely been sitting for years. My wife bought it before we got together. It’s been her dream to fix it up. We also have a 1981 bluebird that’s been converted. The brakes are my next challenge. I’m sure they are in poor condition. It ran when she bought it m, it has a straight 6 and manual Trans.

All my internationals have had 6 bolts in the front and 5 in the rear. Nice catolog. I am using accuride wheels on my bus.

I’m fine with newer wheels. Just don’t know what to get. I will measure bolt pattern tomorrow. Any one know any brake tips for upgrades? Or should I start another thread for those?

The wheels and brakes look light for a 59 to me anyway. If you want to put a cummins in there, then you need to think about what is the rear end ratio, what parts are available for the brakes, steering etc.

It seems to me that this is likely to be best done with an axle swap to get modern componants that will suit more power, speed, and good braking.

Have you driven it to see what it is like in stock form?

I will take some pictures today for you. No I haven’t driven it. My wife had it hauled home when she bought do to two tires being blown out. I was thinking about a rear axle swap.
Yet another hurdle and many more questions.

My wife was told it has an engine out of a dump truck. Not sure what it is but it is in really nice condition. Looked almost new. I’m likely to try to get it moving with it. Just to see.
My worry is the clutch being froze up. I will cross that bridge when I get that far.
I am very interested in the rear swap and doing something about the front brakes if possible.

V-8 or 6 cylinder?

These old buses sure are neat, but can be a lot of work
