2001 Thomas Frieghtliner F65 conversion

We just bought a 2001 Thomas Freightliner F65 school bus. We have removed all the seats and heater. My next move will be to start putting in some flooring and I have run into a dileema of whether to remove the rubber mat throughout the bus or leave and install over it.

The floor is metal and doesn't seem to show any rust. Do I need to also put down a moisture barrier between the flooring? We are going to use vinyl plank flooring that has padding attached to the underside.

It's really personal preference. That said, removing the old flooring allows you to better inspect the metal sub floor and gives you the opportunity to paint it in a non corrosive barrier. You also save about 1" of headroom by not building up on the old floor.

Thanks for your reply. Any easy way of getting the rubber mat out? It seems to be glued down to the metal.

I've been pulling the rubber out of my FS65 thomas for the last few days. Its not so bad. Put a heat gun to it and get a scraper under it. Its a bit slow going, but not hard work.

We got the middle aisle strip out yesterday, didn't bother getting any pics of that. Going to get the other side out tomorrow.
