I received approval from Thomas engineering today

They requested my speed governed be changed from 70 - 75 and that the tech verify the speed rating of my tires is at least 75 mph

So if you don't have a Thomas just look for a used TCm from a motorhome with a compatible 3060?

Is it that easy? Is it plug and play?

Suppose that one know somebody who has a Thomas that's just been approved to be reprogrammed, and that somebody took his bus in for a second re-program with a different TCM (temporarily) installed...

Don't know about busses but with my experience programming and tuning automotive ecm, they are mated to the VIN number. So if the authorization is for a certain VIN and the tech scans your module and it comes up a different VIN they may not do it. Might be worth a try though.

I bought several months ago a TCM for my B300R that was programmed by Vektor. Today i tried it and the 6 on the gear shifter showed up. Unfortunately it did not want to go in gear. That is the gear selection keeps blinking and the bus does not go into gear. Called Vektor and they are shipping another unit out tomorrow.
So keep my fingers crossed.

Went to my local Allison certified shops

Got my 6th gear unlocked and speed adjusted from 70 to 75 mph

Bus now cruises at 67-70 mph without having to keep the gas pedal to the floor

Also will pick up to 75 for passing no problem!

Total cost $320 - $270 for labor and a $50 machine connection fee

No approval letters? No hoops? Just went to an Allison certified shop and asked? I thought about that but figured it couldn't be that easy with everything I have read about this subject.

So I'm trying to go through the process. Have been through 3 Allison service centers who had no clue. They sent me to W.W. Williams trcuk repair in Atl. They knew I would have to get the technical letter sent to Allison from Navistar to okay the procedure. I called a couple of navistar dealers that had no clue and ended up at Lee Smith Commercial Trucks in Chattanooga, Tn. I spoke to Dwayne who also had no clue and hadn't done one in over 20 years. He researched while on the phone and found the form needed to start the process. We made a point of requesting the unlock for fuel economy, not at all to increase speed. They asked what the maximum speed of my bus was? I don't know, I didn't push it past 85, but it had more. We put 80mph. Other than that all that was asked was mileage, hours, and tire info. I asked Dwayne if I could direct others to him for this process as now he is in the know. He agreed. Didn't get his last name, but his name is Dwayne at 800-701-5377.
He also told me there were still 5 active recalls on my bus that could still be performed.

Mgulley82- what was the name of the shop you used to unlock it?

I'm waiting to hear back from my local shop to see if they can unlock 6th on my bus. I'm hoping with the gearing swap it will no longer be considered an OEM set up and Allison won't seek Blue Bird's permission to do it.

Don't tell them you did a gear swap. My guy knew by the VIN that I had a 4.78 gear, I didn't argue. Your VIN should show the original gear.
