If you are locked you should only see a 5 in the trans display .... depending on what type you have. If its 6th open you will see the 6.

Mine's a Bluebird so doing the OEM approval letter for the 6th unlock (assuming I have it) is a no-go.

You have a push button shifter, correct? The number that shows up when you put it into drive is the top gear it will shift into going down the road. If it's a 6 your trans needs no programming. A 5 means you are locked out of 6th gear.

EDIT: Derp beaten to it with a simpler explanation, didn't see the next page.

Yeah mine's the MD3060 with the push button shifter. I will check the gear number on the display next time I take it out.

Mine is actually called the MD3066R, it's the variant with a built in retarder.

Having ridden motorcycles for decades, I expected that display to indicate the current gear not the "mode" it was in. When I replace my worthless in-dash clock with something else, gear indicator will be on the top of my list of things to put there.

After pushing D on the shift pad it will display a 5 or 6.

I also just got my transmission unlocked with Bapos' guy. I also got a diagnostic program as well. He's been pretty good to work with and was able to adapt on the fly to our unique situation.

My bus now will run up to about 74 mph, at least on level ground until it bumps into the rpm governor. Should do nicely at a leisurely 55 or 60 now. It'll be another two weeks probably before I can go run some more economy testing.

I had some issues with getting the right combination of operating system and driver and application... but after enough tries I've got it all working in a virtual machine.

Just got home after running about 130 miles at about 55-60 mph. I had this same run before getting the transmission unlocked and got 8.5 mpg. Tonight's run was 8.6 mpg, given that my tank is 100 gallons and the trip only used about 14.5 gallons I think that's within a reasonable margin of error. I'm disappointed, I was hoping for at least 9.

On not doubting your math but that doesnt sound right.that you only picked up a tenth of fuel mileage?

My bus went from 63 mph @ 2300 rpm (which was max speed and rpm before unlock) and now that same speed is about 1800 or so maybe a little more in rpms. But the top speed now is around 75 or so. I haven't gone max speed on a good solid flat highway yet. So you stayed at the same 55-60 mph? Something else is distorting your math that we dont know some how?

What did your rpm change from 5th to 6th gear? Just curious how did you come to that gallon measurement? Again something is not right to pick up such a small amount.

I haven't driven more than to the weigh station and back after getting mine done but it sure feels more comfortable above 65. I'm interested to see what that means in MPG but it'll be a porky pig before I start driving any distance.

I'm in the same boat I dont drive my bus any distance to really get an eye on mpg but I cant help but think dropping 3 to 400 rpms that you would pick up fuel mileage.

I am hoping that things go better for all that do this.

I use the fuel tracking app, Fuelio. I just input numbers, it does the rest. My Cat revs to 2,600 RPM. About 73 mph is the max I've consistently gotten it up to, up to 75 is in theory possible, but there's few places to do that legally around here and it takes a long time to accelerate up to that speed.

Mileage readings are from the hubmeter. The mileage difference between the two economy trip is from me missing my exit on the first run, so had to turn around and go back. My route is from the Sunco at Washington Dulles International Airport onto Route 28 south to Interstate 66 west. Take Interstate 66 to Interstate 81 north. Interstate 81 to Route 7 east. Route 7 to Route 28 south. Then jump off at Washington Dulles and refill at the same pump.

The first fill up on the 9th was refilling the tank after a lot of short trips to the hardware stores and what not. The second fillup was topping off the tank before starting the run. Third is the run itself. The data from December is the top off and actual run.

Hmmm so you did or did not do the same trip at the same speed?

Since my unlock I've maybe gone 73 mph in it but no need for me to go that fast. I know the sweet spot for the 466e is in the 55 to 60 range.

Same route, same speed, just this time I took the correct exit. The first time I missed the Route 7 exit, continued on Interstate 81 until I could flip around to get back to Route 7.

My fuel economy also changed negligible after getting 6 unlocked. Granted, I limited speed to 62ish before, but now cruise 65-70. rpm’s are slightly lower despite increased speed.
