Pin striping is one thing. The reflective tape on my Brunhilde ranges from 1" to 3". Pin striping is dinky.

It took off 1.5 inch wide letters very quickly with little effort

IDK if the letters were the same stuff as reflective tape. Its like reinforced aluminum foil stuck on with something extreme.
The black letters and numbers on the sides of school buses come off REAL quick with just a rubber wheel on a drill. The reflective tape takes hours.

My letters had some metallic backing on them. All I am saying is for $16 it was work a try for me after hearing how long others were taking to remove some of the letters.

Lettering and reflective tape are different animals. Lettering is a kitten. Reflective tape is a freaking BEAR!

One is DOT stuff and the other just vinyl lettering

I did not have any reflective so I don't know if the eraser would work. I do know it does get pretty hot similar to a heat gun. I was just offering a harsh chemical free option
That may or may not work.

Yeah I get all that. I'm referencing the degree of difficulty in removing to two. Vinyl lettering came off in very short order and 'sticky' residue with a swipe of goo gone and a clean towel. The reflective tape has some kind of super bionic adhesive. The tape comes off with a heat gun and putty knife alright, but then theres the challenge of risidual gunk that takes forever. Got one side of the bus done tho...

That's my point, the DOT has higher requirements to last longer than cheap vinyl sign material good for 4-5 years. The DOT tape is aluminum tape with a thick layer of reflective material on top and a not suppose to come off adhesive on the back. My big grinder makes quick work of it.

See my earlier post in this thread concerning the removal of the super-stick-glue. Contractor's Solvent really does work. Turns it into jelly.

Read your earlier post and the goo gone does same thing. The "jelly" just seems to smear everywhere. I'm gonna just grind this stuff off now I guess. Have to get her painted to keep my neighboors off my back about the yellow bus in the driveway.

I tried Goo Gone and you are right, it makes it smear all over. The only one that worked was Contractor's Solvent. Plus, it does not mar the surface.

I've de-stickered 5 buses and the rubber wheel will work on reflective tape. But its a ton of work. Hours.

When I repainted my bus, I masked over the yellow reflective tape, then covered over with a gray reflective tape that matched my paint color. I like the added visibility while driving on the roads, and it isn't noticeable during daylight.

Like E450S, I wanted the added visibillity at night. Luckily I found a roll of 3M school bus conspicuity tape to slather on the back of my toad--it matches the paint color perfectly! And now, thanks to this forum, I know exactly which chemicals to keep away from my beloved reflective tape.

Yup. 1959 Morris Minor Travellor with a 1989 Geo Tracker 4x4 chassis under it--still looks stock though.

GREAT resto - I missed on it being a Minor, I guess because of a lack of having something to compare the size to - when first married, I was just past my 20th birthday, my wife just past her 18th, we had a Morris Minor to buzz around in - lasted until we had two kids ( 11 months apart ) and somehow the Minor shrunk, so had to opt for something bigger - remember the Minor fondly, but not what I replaced it with --- good memories - do you have any full body pictures of it?
