Grey water issues

Where does your grey water go on your bus? Is there a certain place that lets you empty your grey water? And where do you get your fresh water? Any tips on what I should do for a toilet? Thanks

I'm planning on putting a dedicated grey tank on my bus at some point. I'm planning on parking on private land over the fall/winter, so if I don't have the grey tank by then it'll just go onto the ground. That wouldn't be okay anywhere else, but since I'm on my own land I'm fine with it.

I've seen someone do a combined grey/black tank before. I'm not too sure about that. If it got full it could back up into the shower. I don't want poop in my shower.

I'm thinking of getting a 40 gallon fresh water tank, 40 gallon grey water tank, and 20 gallon black (poop) water tank. I think that's pretty standard on a lot of RVs. It may even be a little big.

Many campgrounds have a waste dump station. Sometimes rest stops on the highways will have a dump station as well. Depending on the rules where you live, you may be able to dump grey water on the ground. Many people save the grey water so they can flush out the hose they use to dump the poop water.

You can find fresh water in a lot of camp grounds too. I've been to one that had a water hose at every other space for filling your fresh tanks.

As for the toilet, I'm thinking of going with an RV toilet. You can pick one up at an RV supply store or online. I've heard someone on here say they liked the Dometic 310. I might buy that one. When I poop in an RV toilet I like to lay a sheet or two of paper in the toilet first. It helps keep the bowl clean.

pretty much what every one said, I have 40gal grey and 40gal black, 35gal fresh, I'm going to go to a 80gal fresh water at some point I also have a seafoam 210 porcelain toilet, when pooping put lots of water in the bowel first, the key to a black tank is lots of water. Place your grey and black tanks on the drivers side, and fresh water fill on the drivers side, most dump stations are designed that way.

It's not much better here in Houston. I started working on my bus at 8am on Saturday. By 930 I was soaked head to toe. The rotted plywood on my floor came up pretty easy (and not much rust underneath). But once I got to plywood that wasn't rotted it was a major PITA. I only got about a third of it out. Took me the better part of Saturday and half a gallon of powerade.

I used to go to Florida pretty regularly when my sister lived in Mobile.

For additional dumping flexibility, you could consider a macerator pump. It'll grind the waste into smaller bits and pump it out through a smaller hose (as compared to the 3 inch "stinky slinky"). That could give you flexibility to dump into any place where you can find an accessible toilet, even if it's uphill from the holding tanks: rest stops, gas stations, etc where a sewer system is present but an RV dump facility is not.

Anyone heard of or have experience with multiple grey water tanks?...I've some odd shaped spaces and can't justify the $$$ of a custom molded tank to fit it.

Seems like a fine option to me. It's a common thing to have kitchen draining to one gray tank and bathroom draining to another in RVs where the two sources are not near each other. If the plumbing is convenient, you could also connect the outlets of the tanks together (and provide air venting to a high point at each tank, and set up the tanks so their upper limits are all at the same elevation) so that water dumped into any of the tanks equalizes into all of them. I wonder what happens, though, with the small chunks that might go into a gray tank -- small kitchen scraps, dirt/sand from the shower, etc. Might want to think about building the tank manifold sloped so that any sediment flushes out nicely. Also consider how far out of level the bus might become, and what will happen to the water when all tanks are full in that condition (will there be an overflow at the air vent of the lowest tank as water from the highest moves in that direction?).

i settled for small tanks... both fresh and waste are about 40 gallons. i had considered multiple waste tanks but having more connections, making it more complex, you increases the likely hood that you'll be working on it in the future. so far, these tanks have been big enough for my needs.
