Best and easiest is to call the manufatcurer and give them the VIN, they will be able to tell you everything about the build.

Bluebird has a nice web portal where you can look up their buses by vin, chassis id, service number, or serial number. Thomas doesn't have anything like that.

I use free truck vin decoders I find via google. Works well enough for me to get the basics on buses I bid on with little info in the listings.

won't/cant decode my 75 chevy bus - it only has 13 characters in the VIN, not the 17 characters that became universal in the 80's

As the owner of a bus now, don't you need to change your "still looking for my bus" tag in your profile? Or have you misplaced it already?

I Googled "truck VIN decoder" and tried them out.

What I got was the same as the "car" VIN decoders. I plugged in the VIN from my Bluebird and received the same results. Either a scam trying to get you to pay for the results or a genuine decoder that tells me make, model and engine. No other info like transmission or rear gears.

I have had good success calling the manufacturer with VIN or body service number. Very detailed information is readily available from your local Bluebird or International dealer. I have not tried Thomas.

CMV ID: A Web-based VIN Decoder for Trucks, Buses, and Trailers

VIN Decoder

I think I've used these two before but I only look for the most basic of info.

Both yielded make model and engine. No other relevant details.

Try my VIN out and see what you get?

What are trying to decode? Are you looking for build sheet or just to know chassis data?
You can use the body number for a Bluebird using the vantage https://vantage.blue-bird.com/Portal/Vantage-Home.aspx
Thomas buses uses the last 7 digits of the VIN, but you have to have a login. Freightliner uses the last 6 digits of the VIN, you must also have an account.
I have access to the Thomas side and would be happy to help if you have a Thomas

If you have an international, let me know what your vin is and what specific info you want to know.
