most tire manufacturers recommend 7.5 or 8.25 if you want to use the common sized 11R22.5 tires.

Reviving this thread for a minute. Is there a spacer between the rims on the dually? I suppose I can drive her to a truck tire shop but was hoping to find some cheaper rims. 9.00r20 change to 22.5 inch rims. Trying to figure out which width to purchase. I will measure what I can tomorrow.

Yes, there is a spacer between the rims. The 20" rims are tube-type while the 22.5" rims will be tubeless. The wider rims will take larger tires, get the wider ones if you plan to run any tire 11R22.5 or larger. Get the smaller ones if you plan to run smaller tires.

I can't remember if the spacer ring is interchangeable between 20" and 22.5" rims. I think it is but I won't swear to it.

I won't quote the link for the video, but I will point out one thing I noticed. When you go to remove the wheels, note the tech only loosened, *NOT REMOVED* the nuts at first. He then hit the clamps with a hammer to loosen them. Be fair warned they can *AND WILL* come loose with quite a lot of force. That's why they leave the nuts in place until every clamp is loose, after which you can safely remove them. You do *NOT* want a clamp coming off with nothing to restrain it. At best, you'll simply lose a clamp, at worst, you'll get hit with it.

Thanks Brad. I think I just need to find a truck tire shop nearby and bring the bus over. I don't plan on changing the tires myself but that is good information about the clamps in case I have to change a tire on the road. I guess I'm.juat mainly concerned about buying the wrong thing. I'd like to get something right the first time for once.

The link Christopher posted has good info on what size (width) of rim to use for various tire sizes. As such, what size rim you need will depend on what size tire you intend to run. If it were me, I would get the 8.25" rim for a 10R22.5 tire (fairly common school bus size) or 11R22.5 tire (extremely common truck and bus size). These tire sizes will net you a little more top speed but keep in mind it will throw your speedometer off. Some electronic ones can be reprogrammed to compensate, mechanical ones will need regearing ... or you can just live with it (the difference won't be that much).

I'd really like to go with the 11r22.5. I can fit my entire head in the wheel well between the tire and the bus (I don't recommend doing this). I think that would leave me enough clearance for those tires. I'll take some more measurements once I figure out the total diameter of that setup to make sure there is enough clearance.

Found a local company that will do the swap. They have all the parts. I'll upload the quote when they send it to me. Is going to cost just under $3,000. That's for all 6 rims (new) and 6 new tires (American made) and disposal of old rims and tires.

$500.00 per tire for a new tire, new rim, mounting, balance, and disposal of all of the old tires and wheels sounds like a pretty good bargain to me!

I think so too! Going to have them do it this coming week if possible.

We are going with 275/80r22.5.

Let's just hope this doesn't open up another can of worms... [emoji848]

Should go ahead and upgrade to some alcoas.

What's the reason for going with that size tire?

I'm looking to upgrade to alcoas and 11R's on my bus. I've got standard steelies and 10R's currently. Only thing holding me back besides money is my gearing.
