How we removed our wheelchair lift

We really wanted to find someone or some organization that could use it; unfortunately that didn't work out. Here is how we got over our fear of the metal monster.

Yeah that's more or less what I did.

I lowered my platform onto a pickup truck bed, then unbolted it, then pushed it into the truck so all we had to do was dump it by the driveway. Scrappers snatched it up in a couple hours.

IDK about where yall are, but here you can put anything metal out by the road and it will be gone quick. No need to haul it anywhere here!

Keep up the work, you guys seem like nice folks!

Yeah we probably could have left it at the street also. We ended up getting a little bit of cash for it at the scrap yard and got to weigh our bus empty so that was a helpful bonus!

Very cool. How much does it weigh?

7000 right on the nose. Not sure how accurate those scales are but at least gives us a starting point for when we start adding things.

I parked so there was soft dirt under the lift, unbolted and pushed it out the door. Called a disabled friend and off he went with the lift. He mounted it on his deck at home.

Excellent. And anyone looking to hand of such a lift might consider contacting local VA/Veteran organizations. Lots of disabled vets could put them to good use.

Yes the lifts use a 12vdc electic-hydrologic pump.

I removed mine with a tractor with forklift tines. That’s after I fell on top of it and bruised my ribs and sternum.

It’s a 2006/07 chasis/bus IC CE300. The lift was manufactured in 2006.

I took this picture in Tapachula last July on my way back from Guatemala. It’s a bit short for me but the quality of work they put into it is fantastic. They have a lot of reflective tape on it too so a different t look at night.

This is a personal bus used by a family. Not a skoolie, still has seats and all.

It is a great bus! What about the new emissions unreliability on busses?

This is a 2006 engine so the only emissions on it is the EGR. Fairly easy to maintain. Even less of a problem if I put a propane injection system on it. But I’m not there yet. Perhaps in the future.

The 2006/07 bus for me was the right bus. I wanted the newest bus I could get with minimal emissions. Rust is almost zero. Took me about six hours to grind it off the floor - mostly surface rust between the seems of the plywood. Sophomore treatment tomorrow and then rustoleum on Sunday.

It did come from Alabama and there’s a thick layer of fine silt on the top of all horizontal surfaces underneath. But nothing a pressure washer won’t take care of that. I’m pretty used to cleaning mud off my Jeep.

Ok, that's great! I didn't understand why the bus looked so knew, basically a glider kit for a bus!
