IP Adjustment for Altitude

We've just moved to a higher altitude (PA @ ~2000' to NM @ ~7000') and think we need to adjust our IP in order to make our DTA360 run more efficiently. Prior to reaching Colorado, we were consistently running with a water temp in the 160~180 range (dependent on load), useable power, and little to no smoke. Since reaching CO and NM, we have been running hotter (up to 210deg. -- we stop and let her cool down before it climbs any higher), seen a significant reduction in power as temp rises, and now produce significant amounts of black smoke under acceleration.

We don't seem to be losing any noticeable amounts of engine oil, so we believe that we are simply run rich due to the change in elevation. With all of this in mind, how do we adjust the ip for the higher altitude? Is that the right step to take? Are there other adjustments that need to be made to compensate for altitude?

you may want to try changing your thermostat to a cooler one?

I don't think that would help. Once the thermostat reaches a certain temp, it stays open. The engine would still overheat. Maybe the thermostat is bad and not opening all the way. But I think PA is right. He needs an altitude adjustment. :P

PA,

Do you have a turbo on your bus?

Re: IP Adjustment for Altitude

yes, we do run a turbo. Also, since we've been in NM for a few days, the amount of smoke has reduced a bit.

We've also been searching for the tech article on "turning up" the IP for more power. I remember reading one much earlier this year (before we got our bus), but cannot remember where I read it. If anyone has some insight on where that might be, it would be much appreciated.
