Is that gap too wide from the wall?

Is that gap too wide? I plan on adding plywood to the edge of the chair rail to hide wire and plumbing runs so I'm unsure if I should cut my vinyl to size or if I'll be fine.. How should I proceed to prevent the vinyl from separating? The floor floats. Thanks!

how wide is the gap?
half inch to one inch?
how much do you pan to build the wall out to hide plumbing?
alot of floating floor applications require a small gap all the way around the edges for floor movement (expansion/contraction) and that gap is usually covered with 1/4 round or a base board.
