Preparation, Yep, took me three days to prep and then a final clean just before painting. I used a latex primer over the fresh Galvanized sheeting, then a base primer over all, then mask and paint four colors (excluding the roof which was Henry's). I'm definitely not an expert but I think the results were ok..

So are you saying that all primers are designed to adhere properly to all existing paint types? There's no combination of old paint / new primer that could cause problems or not adhere properly?

No real need to know whats on it originally, as long as it is not peeling, best bet is to take a reducer/paint thinnerwet a clean cloth and put it on a spot that is hid or not going to take a lot of work to fix, if you get a reaction, if it reacts (peels, washes off or wrikles) you will know "NOT" to put any material (paint/Primer) over it without sealing it first, most will have no reactionas they are inert after a long time, in saying that you can just scuff and paint over it. If there is a reaction a good apoxy sealer will shield it from just about any material you are going to use. I am not an expert in house paints but after years in the automotive/aircraft/RV and boat industry I am pretty confident there is a product that can solve all issues

Most primers (never say all) are designed to fill or cover imperfections so that they can be sanded out, make sure you read the labels some primers won't adhere to bare metal some are designed to do just that. Also know youor metal type, as galvanized, aluminum or cast all require speacial prep and etching agent to adhere to the metal prior to priming and paint.

not at all - primers have specific purposes too - there are a few latex primers on the market now that will stick to glossy surfaces, galvanized metal, and other surfaces that latex primer or paint had no chance of sticking to just a few years back - before buying paint of any type, go to a paint dealership and ask questions - I can't give all the answers here because paint technology changes quickly, and my experience of a half dozen years ago might not be completely valid - I still ask if I see something new

And a serene Sunday to you!
It took me a few to confirm that I was to whom which was being addressed, and what was being referenced!

I reckon that depends upon what gets converted (may need to tap the attached mpeg for it to make sense):
If it's more power, CadillacKid is our go-to guy.
If your comment was regarding the previously mentioned slap-dash paint job, I'm heading to HD today to get a garden hose boom brush & a can of Henry's Tropicool for my white painted roof.
This protracted thermidity sure takes my, "Oomf," somewhere other...
Gutting, framing, minor plumbing, & painting are all in my skill set.
Still boning up on safely installing & integrating AC & DC systems.

What is "preperation"? No such word in the English language.
