I have a couple of pairs of seats from a charter bus. They're not plushy captain's chairs, but they recline and they're as good as anything else me or my friends own.

I have a double seat from a ford transit van - I don't recommend. The step well (in RE, CE and FE buses) forces you to mount the passenger seat a bit behind the driver's seat, unless you relocate the step well and the passenger door, which is not uncommon to see done. Then the passenger seat can be mounted flush with the driver's. Or you can rig some kind of funky projecting support to hold the seat over the step well while driving, but I can't recall seeing anything like that, it would have a high degree of difficulty.

I bought a seat from a Toyota Sienna that has a self contained seatbelt. I'm going to MacGyver it to mount onto a swivel base and use it as my semi-recliner when not traveling.

I may also put a seatbelt in my one bench seat at the rear of the bus.

From what I've read, the only seat belts that have to fully match the drivers situations is a passenger seat that's alongside the drivers seat. Other than that, the seats orientation (facing forward, backwards or sideways) and the type of seatbelt (lap only, lap and shoulder) doesn't matter.

From my research, while some states have less restrictive requirements, most states require what I just stated above, so if you do that, you're good for all 50 states. Well, 49, unless you're shipping your bus to Hawaii.

Here in NM all passengers must be belted. It is a 25 dollar fine if you don’t.

I moved my entry door to the back, where the handicap lift was.
I find the stairs are a big waste of limited space, you notice most RVs don't have stairs like that..because they are living space and not transport vehicles made to make it easy to get in/out at a roadside curb. Most RVs have fold down steps. My plan so make a fold down mini-deck..

Sorry, I forgot that detail. Behind the driver's seat akin to the original seats. This did admittly result in a very tight aisle, and so far most of the seats have not been used on a trip, so I'm omitting half of them on my second bus. If I can squeeze the room I would like to install a fold out sofa on the other side in their place.

I love the rigs where the entry door is moved behind the front seats.. im not sure id put it all the way in the back just because id want some means of egress in the front where the passenegrs are sitting.. something other than having to break the windows out..



the stairs and bus entry dor are huge sources of air infiltration, noise, and heat.. as well as rust.. getting rid of that seems like a good move

Except as provided by Section 66-7-369 NMSA 1978 and in Subsection B of this section, each occupant of a motor vehicle having a gross vehicle weight of ten thousand pounds or less manufactured with safety belts in compliance with federal motor vehicle safety standard number 208 shall have a safety belt properly fastened about his body at all times when the vehicle is in motion on any street or highway.

Wheelwell cut down with a cage over to mount swivel air ride for passenger, plus seat belt. Dinette behind driver with seat belts as well.

Thats what I did!.. Toyota chair with seatbelt on an old Ford van chair swivel base. Mine is behind the stairs, so slightly behind driver. Stair railings also work for a good footrest when driving - kind of like putting your feet up on the dash in a pickup truck. It can swivel and recline. It locks into place in two positions, forward or backward.

In the backward setting, it doubles as a chair at the table located "behind" it.
At 90 degrees (facing the aisle) it will not lock, but works good that way when not in motion. Usually gets set up that way when one person is working in the kitchen, and the aisle space is needed, or for when we have visitors.

Thanks Musigenesis. I love your take on the spelling. Funny story on the “Phatman”. I only weigh 165 lbs.
