If you find replacement ones and they are expensive, I may can attempt to 3d print some for you. I haven't quite got to that stage on mine yet. Mine is also a 1995 Thomas and looks different from your picture there, but if you managed to remove one in tact and it's all plastic, I'm good with CAD design and 3d Printing, if you sent me one I could design a 3D model clone of it and print you some for very cheap per item, not much more than cost/shipping. I would need one to see if it's even possible. And how many would you need?
As far as removal, I'm not really sure on that one. Someone else may need to answer that.
We can maybe work something out. I like to 3d Print and make replacement designs and could maybe use it to help others out as well down the line who need the same. Send me a private message if you are interested.
