I wonder why I'd pay for info when this site is free?

I don't see anything wrong with it.
If there is a need, and someone want to pay for a service, so be it.
Good luck with it

You could charge for it (just not to me )

Like any service: sometimes is done for money, others for serving the community, and at times for both.

I've been to the dentist for free, yet I've had to pay 60/hr for mindfuness meditation session. Who makes sense of that. hehehe

If you put together a decent distillation of ideas and advice and compiled it into a pdf book, as they seem to have done, it would be worth $20 for those not wanting to trawl through forums.

It's how we used to do it before we had the internet. I would spend a fortune on specialist books and magazines.

I agree it’s a tacky cash grab, I have seen a few companies pop up that do conversions for money.

I hope skoolies don’t go the way the tiny house thing did.

He's got a business building skoolies now. I think he's only done a couple. Three if you count his own. Now he has a book. I don't think he's an expert, just an entrepreneur. (Discovering Us Bus...Missy Conversions)
In this video https://youtu.be/wMqQKI7azR0 she explains the reason for buying and converting a school bus....the video is dated Jan 2016.
So, it's not that he's an expert and has been in the business a long while but just trying to start a business and the thing to bring in more money is an e-course.

In my mind, to do a bus conversion well you need to be a carpenter, metal fabricator, plumber, electrician, auto mechanic and most importantly a creative problem solver.

I don't see any of those things in their credits.

It's hard to know if they know how to do anything right or if they can show you how to do anything except exactly what they do.

They could be great, I don't know.

The only reason I think I could do a Schoolie conversion is that I have read a lot and watched a lot of videos and I feel that I have a good enough skill set to pull it off.

I see a lot of people who jump in almost blind and usually see lots of stuff done poorly and a bus I wouldn't want to live in.

A $20 e-book probably isn't going to fix that.

If you know, you know, if you don't know, you should figure it out before you spend too much...

Seems to me that they did a bus.....loved it....and wanted to do more. (Much like adopting kids) No problem with that IMHO. I'm a firm believer in reading as much as you can. I am ok with my lack of ability (and Lord knows there are many) but where there is a will, there's a way, and I'm not giving up on my dreams, just because I'm nervous about doing something. My bet is that those who choose to buy the program will figure out soon enough, if he meets their requirements, to teach them stuff. If so, great....if not you may choose to forgo that next case of beer, to make up for the $20.

They actually do pretty nice work. Having been at this tiny home show here in SW Florida all weekend, I found lots of folks who would love to convert but don't have the time, but do have the resources to have someone else do it.
Missy is really lovely. And helpful. I've gotten several tidbits from her over the past year.
And ECCB... I'd pay a million bucks for your advise, if I had it
Sandi - who's had a fantastic weekend meeting new skoolie friends!

I plan on reading the great posts on this site and posting my experiences back to share with others.

I also encourage others to do the same. You'll find there is a wealth of information available for free and if you have a question there are plenty of good people to answer them and others to debate the reply.

Some people will try to make money from anything.

The problem I see with this scheme is most skoolie owners are cheap and resourceful. Probably not the best crowd to sell ebooks to.

I've watched some of their Youtube stuff and think he does a pretty good job of explaining and doing tasks. 'Our kind' does seem to enjoy digging around the forum to find answers, but there are many who prefer the handbook style. It's kinda like composting toilets......some do. some don't.
Whatever works 4 you.

I added a couple to your very good list.

Having an old Singer sewing machine and knowing how to sew a straight seam wouldn't hurt either.

Most of all, I think you need to be willing and able to research and learn a new skill.
