Upper cabinets advice needed

Hey guys, I'm going to be installing some cabinets above the seats and the length of the bus. My question is what worked best for you material wise? It looks like the "l" brackets or angle brackets work best? How do you anchor them so they're secure?

Thanks

Re: Upper cabinets advice needed

I screwed wood directly into the roof and walls of my bus with TEK (self drilling screws) then screwed the cabinets to the wood. They have held up well except that they're made of particle board. I've had a few of my door hinges pull out. I'd strongly recommend using real wood, at least on the face/doors of the cabinets. The cabinets seem to be able to hold a lot of weight, I've had jugs of water, cases of pop, and lots of can goods in there with no problems.

Here's a picture from when I was building them, notice the end is not yet on the rt side, and you can see the wood screwed into the ceiling.

I did mine like phillbus914 did only I used plywood. I pretty much copied the design in a travel trailer but I used 2x2's instead of 1x2's.

Re: Upper cabinets advice needed

I used Oak 1x3's to build mine, bought the doors from an ebay seller that had great prices (paid less than $3 per door)... They went up much like the others pictured above....

Re: Upper cabinets advice needed

When one stands only 5' 7" tall head room tends to be a minor factor!! That being said, my short ceiling bus that started out with 6' of head room now has a hair over 5' 10" and MOST people can still walk around in there without ducking! The ceiling was easy to install and lost only minimal space (1.75")...
