Modifing wiper blades to fit my wiper arms

This is one way to replace wipers, my plastic tangs where broken etc

My wife grabbed these at work closest fit she had to fit the arm and pin

The one I replaced had a 1/4 hole in the wiper blade it would "flop" side to side



This 3/16 dia shoulder bolt is the pivot point for the stock wipers, notice the "shoulder" it keeps you from over tightening the bolt and crushing wiper, thus it won't be able to pivot








See how similar they are? I just have to remove the rivet and open the hole up in the new blade



The wiper arm has two different size holes to allow the shoulder bolt to work (do not modify these!!)



Place "blue" painters tape over the rubber blade to ensure any hot chips won't melt into the blade and ruin it

drill the rivet loose (drill indented side not the head, alot easier)



At this point knock the rivet out(may be tight due to powder coat paint around head)

install new wiper blade into arm, tighten the nut(this is a "nylock" type nut it should be replaced everytime it's taken off) I used my discression and reused it

Part two

The passenger wiper blade was over riding the windsheild and molding, that will kill a blade, so it was time to adjust them

notice the two nuts on wiper base/
small one on the "follower arm" holds the adjustment for blade angle in place



The big nut on the wiper arm holds the arm on, while locating it on splines

take nuts off and put an alignment mark for the splines


remove pcs, clean lightly lube





my splines are somewhat booger'd so I will look into another arm in the future

I moved the arm 2 splines and it moved it about 3 inches

when parked it's near middle of glass out of the way


now if you notice her blade is straight up and down or perpendicular to the windsheil, the "follower" works like a suspension part and you can adjust the angle(camber) of the blade thru the travel

My blade was at an angle and wouldn't wipe good

if you loosen these and change the "length" of the "follower" it changes the angle of your blade

as it was all the way in or the "shortest"

so new blades and they are adjusted...Remember this one thing

Make sure to have water availible to spray on windshield...a slick wet glass lets the blades move faster and furthe with no drag.....drive on
