Terrific combination and appears to be in outstanding shape. That 6-speed should also yield some pretty impressive mileage. Great find!

Re: 1991 Int Blue bird long snout
Very nice looking bus!! Looks like it's in great shape! I saw in your other post how easy you got the title swapped. WHERE?? I'm also in mn, and went in a while ago and got all these forms to fill out. Also supposed to have reciepts for everything. Mine is mostly converted and has everything, so it should be just as easy. I just have it as a Y class truck for now. Insurance was a piece of cake, though. I got it through Progressive, with no issues. I don't dare try to change anything, though, as they claim they don't do it now.

SW MN.... You could probably drive down just for the small town no nonsense DMV office. PM for location if you are going to.

Re: 1991 Int Blue bird long snout
So I got locked out of my own house today...... Dont ask.
I was going to have about 6 hours before anyone would be home with a key. I was sitting in the shop wondering what I was going to do and thinking about how bad I wanted a sun drop when it hit me that I should work on the bus. It was about 25 today but I stayed warm working my butt off.....
I got all the seats out except two up front incase somone wants to go for a ride.

I love the picture with the dog. Is that a Beagle or a Basset Hound?

Re: 1991 Int Blue bird long snout
Its a pure bred basset but looks alot like a basset beagle. Great dog....... Sheds alot.
The tranny is pretty sweet hoping for some great MPG's.... I may have over stated the gearing in the bus...... It will do 65 but I think it is closer to redline of 2800rpm than 2400 rpm.... We'll see once I get the new clutch in, hopfully within a month.

Re: 1991 Int Blue bird long snout
You might want to keep an eye out for some taller gears. That 444 can definitely still pull strongly down to around 2000 and your mpg's would shoot up dramatically. You would have to do a little more shifting in hilly or mountainous terrain, but I think it is worth investigating. Just a thought.

Re: 1991 Int Blue bird long snout
Well after about 12 man hours I have all of the interior skin and isulation out including the ceiling. I counted about 1000 rivets but its done. I sure hope its worth it. Next I will take up the floor and see what kind of cancer is underneath.
I know I know Pics.
On a side not ordering some dual pane Rv windows today for 60$ each..... So thats awsome.

Re: 1991 Int Blue bird long snout
I saw some of those rv windows online (used). Dual pane seemed to be the same or similar to single pane... Shipping is half
Sounds like you found a good deal!

Looks great! I'll bet you're feeling good right about now. I know I was at that point in my project.
When I did my floor, though, I wasn't aware of the POR15 with black color. I like that better than the regular stuff I used. Next time...

Looks good,
I get my bus tomorrow and can't wait to get to where you are. I will take out all the interior sheet metal as well.
Every one here says to use a air chisel, I have to go and pick one up

Re: 1991 Int Blue bird long snout
I had great luck drilling out every rivet with a 3/16'' bit then a cold chisel and hammer. A few wacks and the head would pop. I have an air chisel maybe I should have gotton it out....... The key with the drill was not to push too hard and spin the rivet.
I got out all the rivets in about 14 hours....

Re: 1991 Int Blue bird long snout
I was able to get about 3/4th's of the window skining done with the interior steel. I will need to order a sheet or two to finish but that saved me alot of money. The factory interior skin from the roof is 20 Gauge. Seems sufficiant so far and its already painted so it will resist corrosion until its all re-painted. I also ordered Bus Kote and primer....
Now what to use for paint? I dont need a show quality finish I just want it to last. Im thinking maybe a wagner to spray it...
