2001 66 passenger bus

what is the consensus on this combination? - "2001 GMC, 3126 Cat Diesel Engine, 5 Speed Transmission."? - I've asked about gearing but haven't heard anything back yet - bus has just over 100,000 miles on it, tires are excellent including snow tires on the rear wheels - brakes are excellent according to the ad - it's a Saskatchewan bus, so hopefully the gearing is high ( low numbers )

Sounds like a good combination if you are a CAT fan.

Some here love the 3126 and some simply don't care for CAT.

CAT (like most mfg's) has produced a couple of real bombs. From what I've heard the 3126 is one of their better efforts. Lots of them on the road.

I have shied away from CAT primarily because of parts and service available in my area. I have 3 shops within 3 miles that will work on my Cummins. The nearest CAT shop is 30+ miles away.

Good luck with your quest.

Sounds like a real nice setup.
I used to avoid Cat. But the 3126 is a gem. Mine is smooth, quiet, and has a really nice torque curve. Seems very well built. My last DT not so much.

No chip, but you can have it re-rated. Some folks have had it for free when getting service or other work done. Seems about $350 otherwise. But that's going to a cat service center and having them change your engine rating.
