Does anybody know how to identify an alternator and know how many amps it is rated for? I can't find any discernible markings on this thing other than one word which I think is the brand.

Just completed (yesterday) patching another hole where an escape patch used to be. Soon there will be a roll of skylights across this section.

might want to make sure the skylights are raised a bit.. those ribs running along the bus will tend to puddle water. depending on how you are parked..

A "roll" of skylights? Perhaps a "row." On my Freightshaker, I covered that skylight.

Looks like you are about to pull the alt off. Is it not working right? Likely you'll get more info from it when you take it out.
I would hazard a guess that it is in about the 160 amp output range on your Cat.

It is a Leese Neville, now owned by Prestolite. 160-200 amps sounds about right, you can't tell by looking unless the tag is still on it.
For my money, I would put a Delco on it. It would be a direct replacement. Make sure there is 12 volts getting to it before you change it.

It's working fine, just trying to figure out how much I can pull from it. Thanks for your help! If 160 amp it should deliver nearly 2kw. That's quite a bit!

That is looking great. The vanhool I used to live in had really large translucent emergency exits and the light inside the bus was fantastic. i makes everything look bright and happy. That was the reason I put a skylight in Elfie and will put one in Dory a well.
I think so many skylights would be an artist dream ( i am not) but i can see where they are coming from.
Are you putting lexan right on top? or are you getting venting skylights?
That will look so cool when you are done, please update.

thats gonna rock!!!! I love the amount of light you wilkl have.,. I Love natural light.. my DEV bus doesntr have tinted windows.. and my RedByrd does.. the DEV is so much brighter inside but dang those dual A/C units struggle in southern summer heat.. (where I end up a lot).. whereas the single unit in the Redbyrd keeps me decently cool even though its in the back of the bus..

Once I verify that this is watertight I'm going to cover all the fasteners and the margin of the glass with eternal bond tape for an added layer of protection and clean appearance. Then a crazy idea that I have additional is to make magnetic insulating covers that I can put over them when I want to block light and save HVAC.

That looks great,I love the slight curvature.
I was dreaming in putting some curved windows on the side like a landrover discovery has and the old VW bus a well.
My skylight has developed some cracks . Probably did not leave enough expansion clearance at the screw holes. No leaks though. I used 1/4" lexan.
I would flip some of you washers so that the rounded edge from the washer is against the plexiglass so that it does not create a stress riser. Not sure if you used SS hardware but that might help against rust staining.

So this is thinner Lexan than yours. that's how I'm able to get it to curve. I'm hoping to avoid the cracking from expansion and contraction by over drilling all of the holes and then using a smaller diameter screw with washers. All of the hardware is only zinc plated rather than stainless steel unfortunately but my plan is to cover it with eternabond tape to where none of the actual steel is exposed.

I over drilled as well and deburred to reduce the chance of stress risers there also. May be it was the the sealant glue I used that reacted with the lexan?
Anyway, yours looks great, easy enough to make foam pieces to insulate as required. In the winter in a sunny climate your bus will have more desired solar gain .

Thanks for the encouragement! It was nice to go out after the remnants of the hurricane blew through and see that things were dry. Here's a view up towards the sky through one of the skylights.
