Re: 87 Wayne Lifeguard international S1700 CXXVI

i installed my Marinco power connector in the bus today. i attached some 30A cable to it ran it under the bus, attached it to the floor ribs with metal strapping, and cut a hole in the floor under the cabinet and ran it up to the power area of my cabinet where the converter is installed. I sealed the hole with spray foam. i figure i can always drill though the foam is i need to run other wires through that hole. now i need to finish attaching. the twist connector at the other end in the cabinet

i did some more work on the power system in the bus i hooked up the power converter installed some outlets so that i can plug and unplug between the converter and inverter once it is installed, and i installed a power strip to provide outlets for the kitchen area and inside the cabinet if needed. i also installed a duplex outlet in the refrigerator access area.

i added the next shelf for the RV microwave. and positioned it in there. tomorrow i will install the face for the entire cabinet, and possibly the door for the power cabinet. i also installed an old dome light in the power cabinet which will run off either the battery or the converter same as the range fan and light.

Re: 87 Wayne Lifeguard international S1700 CXXVI

so today i ended up installing a light switch and the 2 RV lights i purchased a while back in the kitchen. they are 12V DC fixtures, but i ran them through a regular 12V AC switch as they are low wattage it should work ok for a while. i plan on replacing the bulbs with LED versions in the future in order to decrease the amount of power going through the switch and coming out from the battery or the converter as this is set up to use either.

I did some more work on the cabinet today. i used some LDPE packing foam to brace the microwave inside its cabinet, and added a piece of wood at the back so it wont slide backward. i cut a front for the microwave out of plywood and built a cabinet door for the power cabinet and started painting. i still need to make a lower front piece for the Fridge.

i changed out the old 70`s paneling refrigerator face plate for a piece of counter-top laminate. its a lot more pleasing to the eye.

i used spray adhesive on the back of the piece of paneling after cleaning with alcohol

yes, i couldn't tale the old cover panel. if your fridge is as old as mine it should just be a couple of screws, take the frame apart and slide the old panel out. i was surprised to see that new panels cost as much as $80, I think the counter-top laminate is stronger and looks better than the official stuff i saw on-line for sale. when you get yours changed be sure to post a photo.i would like to see how it turns out

Re: 87 Wayne Lifeguard international S1700 CXXVI

i installed a fan with a switch to assist my fridge on hot days, and i installed a window ac in the rear endcap of the bus. it was a pain to get the hole cut right through both skins, but i was successful. here are some photos

here is the fan:

Re: 87 Wayne Lifeguard international S1700 CXXVI

That has got to be the best place to install a standard window AC unit in a bus. If my interior configuration was different I would do it myself. One thing I don't understand about your installation is how the thing is supported. I see that you have it screwed in on the face inside the bus, but I would think you would need some kind of "L" bracket on the outside to hold the weight of the overhang? I'm thinking that there must be a lot of torque from the bouncing combined with the overhang of the rear end beyond the rear wheels. Maybe I'm over-thinking/over-engineering, but I thought I'd put that out there for you to consider.

you are right. it is the most logical place for this type of ac. what you cant see in the pics is that a couple of inches of the ac protrude into the living space and that the perforated angle iron is screwed to both the skin of the AC and the skin of the bus. the heaviest components of the ac are in the wall over the support. i am also concerned about movement when driving so pretty soon I'm going to construct some metal supports and attach them the outside of the ac and the roof edge of the bus to further stabilize it. this thing fits so tight in its hole I'm not sure ill ever pull it out in the future. perhaps if the ac dies ill just pound it out with a sledge hammer

here are a couple pictures of the Ac install from different angles so you can see how much is overhanging out the back
