96' Gillig Phantom

Just got my first bus! It's a 96 gillig phantom with 500,000 miles, everything works and runs excellent! I'm converting it into an RV not a tiny home.

Hello!

Welcome!

I love Gilligs, they are awesome.

What’s the difference between an RV and a tiny home in your mind?

You need to rack up a few posts before you can post pictures, but I’m looking forward to seeing them!

Right on! Welcome to the Phantom Club. With their predominantly flat ceiling and the six and a half foot clearance inside, they are a great platform for a build. They are, I think, the most pleasant bus to drive that I've ever had the pleasure of driving. Some of our vintage buses may be more fun, with all of the shifting and such, but the Phantoms are just easy and comfortable and handle very well.

What engine and transmission combination do you have in yours? I've got manuals for ours and if they apply to yours I'd be happy to help you out with relevant sections.

Where are you located by the way?

I agree with Ross completely, but then I’m among the converted already

Now the pictures are showing up! Looks great! Are you in WA?

I envy your aluminium wheels!

Ross, is your latest having the Dinex G2 multiplex system?

Bert, I don't believe so...but I'm not familiar with that data system.

Bricco, do you have the Series 50 Detroit? If so, that's what our Phantoms have and I have some manuals which might be of use to you.

Ah, okay. I’m sure you would recognize it if they were on your buses. I have over a dozen of these modules everywhere.

Mine has the G3 system, and I read somewhere Gillig switched from Dinex G2 to Dinex G3 around 2007 or 2008. I was curious when they started or what came before.

Our Phantoms are both 2001 and they don't have any of that, as far as I've seen, and I've dug pretty deeply.
