I found a 1999 International body Flat Nose Front engine with a AT545 tranny and a DT466E.. What is the feasibility of ripping out the 545 and swapping in a ht740 automatic transmission from Allison.. Seems like its better than the at545.. and has better max hp and torque allowances.
the allison 1000 is a near direct drop in for a 545.. size wise you may not even have to shorten yopur driveshaft... CAC makes a box that will give the transmission the TPS it needs... the latest gen only need TPS.. they have acceleramoters and engine loading sensors within the transmission so external sensors arent needed...
personally i dont worry about it... ive got two AT545's and yeah theres better out there.. but i just ran a bus at 65 all the way from tampa to columbus ohio without an issue... but then maybe the 545 is well suited for short busses.. (both of mine are)..
The HT740 was not a 5-speed transmission. The HT750 was a 5-speed.
It does lock up in every gear except 1st so it feels as if it shifts more than four times.
If it is set up to run behind a Detroit engine it won't work very well behind the engine in your bus. It will require new governor settings at the least.
It is also being sold as a used transmission. In other words you are purchasing a pig in a poke.
Who knows, you might be able to get it to work for you.
But at $1K I think I would prefer to spend the $$$ on a transmission that comes with a warranty.
