Bootlegger Bus Mobile BAR - International Skoolie

Hi, it’s been a long time coming since making this post but It’s a bit of info and some photos on our project that we are doing across the pond in the U.K.

A converted skoolie - to a mobile events BAR for festivals.

We got the bus 2 years ago from across the country in Scotland (where your current president has family from i gather) and had it taken back on a truck 600miles south, leaking steering pump and crap like that.

It was used to promote a Scottish cannabis community pictures to show! (despite it all still being illegal over here with our unfortunate Medieval English laws still in existence...)

It’s an ex US naval bus that was designed right hand drive 2 of them were shipped over here from the states back in the 80s to a British naval base in Plymouth, it spent a long time moving American and British troops around the base. Before being sold off to one of its previous 12 owners! Would love to know where the other one ended up...

We have spent the last 2 years trying to preserve it from rust mainly and including reverse engineering a new dash up, wiring in domestic electrical circuit, prepping and repainting the whole bus, degreasing and undercoating the whole bus, engineering a pneumatic side hatch buying shipping installing steering box etc..the list goes on!

We have gutted a piano and installed a cooled beer draft system inside that will allow 4 different beers/ciders to be poured. Including lights inside and out, this was mounted on a tiled plinth.
Speakers inside and out including a leisure set up with 2000w inverter.
And general bar appliances and fridges all over.

Our theme is rock’n’roll, and that’s the only music we will ever be playing! The bus is called “Bootlegger Bus” for reasons obvious, which we hope to trade at local events and festivals with.
The reaction this American bus receives over here is quite rewarding, so we really hope we can keep her running at all costs!

I’ll upload some photos in this post to show day1 to current. And again thank you to everyone who’s helped out since!

If you have social media - instagram or Facebook please follow us it would be massively appreciated.

If you are ever in the United Kingdom and we are fortunate enough to get this yellow brick into festivals, you may one day see us at an event, come over and say hello! A beers on us!

Nice!
Love how you repurposed the piano!

So my bus was owned by BrewDogUSA -- not so common here but very common in your neck of the woods I hear!

I'll be doing a bar-bus as well -- if you have details on the plumbing set-up somewhere please post a link.

I'm assuming with 4 taps you've got a proper kegerator with CO2 and not a "jockey box" set up.

Hey yes brewdog is very popular over here, PUNK IPA is sold in most places, it’s great if you haven’t tried it.

We opted for a EVO-70 cooler, which allows us 4 kegs. So you have your CO2 lines going into the kegs, which pushes the beer out of the kegs into the cooler, that goes around a cooling element which then goes to the beer taps.

The EVO70 allows you to put output tubing cooled water too, so we then tubed up 4 lines which we wrapped around the beer out lines that go to the draft taps, we cable tied these around the beer line and insulated them with foam wrap. which is acting like water cooling for the lines.

So if you are a long time down without serving a beer it means the beer that’s in the line up to the tap will stay cool and not spoil.

We wanted to try and keep a more traditional set up.

I’ll try get some better pictures of the set up for you this weekend.

Cheers

The evo-70 is a nice bit of kit!

On my budget I'll be modifying a chest freezer to a kegerator...
But who knows what turns up used when you have time to search...

(It's what brought me to Columbus...)
