If you have a few friends it only takes like 5-10 mins.

Roof raise was a success! Went up 14 1/2 inches, got all vertical supports bolted AND welded in. Next step (after Christmas) is to weld in the framing for door, windows, and the front transition, as well as angle metal for the skins to have somewhere to rivet. Hoping to do all that Thursday, then maybe Friday we can start skinning the sides. I did get a short time lapse video of the actual raise, if i can figure out how to post it here i will.

Nice progress so far.

What are the specs on that sweet little Mustang? I wish I'd have kept both of those I've owned ('67 conv, '68 coupe).

Ha! I wondered if anyone would notice the Mustang. Its not mine, the bus is at my Brother-in-law's house, i guess it was his dad's. Don't really know much about it other than it needs a lot of work.

Got the new stairs framed in and the old ones closed off. Framed in a new storage box under old stairs. Still have another day of prep before sheet metal. Hoping my 30' x 50' tarp holds up with all the wind and rain today

Last day of work on the bus for a couple months. Got all the side skins in place, still have to drill and install a lot more rivets. Was not able to get the roof transition pieces figured out just yet, so I'll have to address that in the spring.
Got the door installed, but didn't get to cut out window openings yet.

Nice work! Did you build that structure where it is, or did you assemble it outside and then install it in one piece? I've done both of my recessed floor boxes outside and then installed them whole, but I'm wondering if it would have been easier to just build them in place.

Both were "stick framed" in place, cut and welded one piece at a time. The new stairs I framed into an existing underbody storage box.

Haven't posted much lately, but did get some work done the past couple weekends. The dash redesign/rebuild is now complete, including the new radio and wiring for 6 speakers. Added a transfer switch for the dash radio so i can choose whether it receives power from the bus batteries or the house batteries. Removed a 5 gallon buckets worth of unnecessary wiring (saved for future use), got the ceiling framing complete, built and installed a skylight/escape hatch, installed a fixed skylight and the maxxair fan. Also got the backup camera installed. Just waiting on a weekend with no rain in the forecast to finally tackle the roof transition.

Yes I really like how you dealt with the curved roof. Should look really nice when done!!

You sure are getting a lot done with the limited time you have. Its amazing how much you actually get done when you do work on it. Very efficient and ambitious. Bus is looking great! Excited to see more.

Thanks! I've been in construction for a couple decades, so I definitely know how to be efficient. If my job weren't "essential" right now I'd be getting a TON done on the bus.

Took a personal day away from work today to take advantage of the beautiful weather. Got the roof washed and seams/rivets sealed. Also got 6 of the eventual 9 windows installed and sealed, as well as 2 storage compartment access doors. The last 3 windows will have to wait until I finish the roof transition (they are under the tarped area). [IMG][/IMG]

That makes sense! Keep at it. Looking great! Since you have been in construction, how do you feel someone doing a conversion with minimal construction experience?

Not sure, its a lot of work even if you kind of know what you’re doing. I imagine it would take someone with no construction experience a much longer time to complete things, and more money to purchase tools required.

I suppose that makes sense. It can be done, just expect more time and more frustration. Thank you. Looking forward to seeing more.
