All cleaned out and ready to start the marking and cutting for the raise. Looking for the right material for the hat channels. Looks like 1 3/16" is what I'm looking for. I might use some 1" x 1" square and some 3/16" angle?Click image for larger version

Asetechrail and I tried something similar. We tried welding ("we" means Kent did the work while I watched) 3/16" flat onto 1" square tube to achieve 1-3/16" to fit the hat channel.

Welding and grinding turned out to be very time consuming. We needed 26 pieces. They were taking about 40 minutes each.

We decided to go a different route and had a local shop bend up U channels from 1/8" material. That worked out much better for us.

You gonna proceed this weekend or wait for the tropical depression to pass?
Supposed to be POURING rain tomorrow.

I could see about getting you some channel if you want. But it may take a while.

If it were me I would, the windows aren't very time consuming to remove, on re-install I would have piece of mind that fresh sealant has been used, would hate to pop a window or twist a frame and need to track down a new window (not likely a big problem in civilization) but a cost I wouldn't be happy about if I could have avoided it.
That's my view anyways

Forgot to mention that I had to take the windows out, the flaps were a part of them. I was advised to use a spot weld cutter but decided to use a drill bit the diameter of the welds to get the panels loose. Did one side like that and broke a few bits. Might cop a few spot weld cutters for the other side to see how it goes

I guess if you could casually ask how long channel would take that would be pretty cool. And the cost of course.

I got a fancy blanket from Harbor Freight to keep Sparks from hitting my windshield or Dash. Going to cut some of the supporting metal out of the roof on this rainy day.Click image for larger version

Cost is free or cheap, if my stepdad can find the time to get em made.
Its worth a shot, I'll ask him.
How wide are the ribs on the ID? 1 3/16" ?
I think I had my Amtran rib extensions made in 1 1/8".
I'll check the size of the ones I've already got. May get lucky!

Trying to see if my interior roof sheet metal is sufficient thickness for skinning the sides after the roof raise. Seems Google can't find it for me. They would be ideal because they're the right height already and the holes are already drilled along the edges. I suppose if all else fails I can get the micrometer out and measure.

It's basically just skin, some have used it. As long as you don't run into stuff you won't puncture it.

Speaking of rib extensions it reminded me of the search I just did for rub rail end caps. I'll need some for my double door mod. The caps for a Genesis Amtran new are $88ea. I'll have to find me some used ones.

I think they'd be fine.....mine are the same thickness as my skirts. I used some of mine to skin over my old doorway, and will use more to make storage compartment doors.

And all the pre-drilled holes are awesome.

Cant believe the difference in planning a bus 2.5 times bigger than my short bus. Just agony. I really want to just lift it so I can visualize the space better but I might be moving the rear door. What a pain. Night after night I've searching internet and watching YouTube videos for inspiration. I should be able to order my rib extensions from Colorado with my next paycheck.

Why order them from so far away?
I've got a sample for you to try.

This company Fab Lab Customs was recommended. They've been doing parts for bus lifts. Sure seems like an easy way to go for u channel with the flares. Less fab work for me.Click image for larger version

LOL
well if you'd rather pay a stranger, be my guest. I was trying to hook you up for free with something that fits perfectly.
Why do you need the flares? How long are the extensions he's selling?
Are you gonna forget the 6 degree slant and just see what happens?

I've also got 4x10's of cold rolled 18ga for $65 each if you want any.

JUST TRYING TO HELP!
