Re: CHANGED AGAIN! THIS WILL BE IT!!

The signs make it look like a suitcase, or an equipment box for a rock band.

I'm not saying that's good or bad. It's not my style (low-key), but it's your bus, not mine. The design wouldn't scare me from parking next to it.

I see you are proposing my favorite "protest" sign for your roof. . . "END ROAD WORK"

Make sure you can prove you are the legal owner of those signs...otherwise, the police might have some really interesting questions as to how you got them!

If you're set on that theme, paint or graphic "signs" might work better.

You have to have a "Dip In The Road" sign...

Looking at it again, I love the idea... Very creative and will defiantly draw people toward it...

Re: CHANGED AGAIN! THIS WILL BE IT!!

OOOH.. THATS A GOOD ONE.

I started to do the back of bus. I just can't see hand painting all this. THIS IS CRAZY. I really like the theme. But I would also like to be done with it before this summer. Maybe I can try to slimline it a bit. Maybe bigger signs. That would mean less smaller detail?

Re: CHANGED AGAIN! THIS WILL BE IT!!

You might want to try finding the signs online at a novelty shop. Many of them are metal, so all you'd have to do is rivet them in place - no painting required. Or, have a sign shop print them using vinyl on magnetic sheets. As long as the sign lies flush to the body, no one will know the difference. And you can change them out as the mood and situation dictate.

Hey there bozo!! i was just cruzing threw your thread for ideas and plans and i wanted to add to the sign suggestions, you need a SLOW MOVING TRAFFIC TO THE RIGHT painted on the back somewhere i think that would go along great with the theme

Re: CHANGED AGAIN! THIS WILL BE IT!!

Tygercub.. I though of just riveting signs to the side. But I don't think that will be too clean looking. And there are a lot of rub rail areas. So the magnetic signs wouldn't work either. Thats the only problem with school buses. There isn't much flat sheetmetal.

Mike.. thats a good one! Thanks!

Re: CHANGED AGAIN! THIS WILL BE IT!!

Can't be too hard to do. Cut a few template sign shapes from cardboard, stencil mats, whatever. Stencils, paint, or spray a base color. Repeat with lettering stencils. Might need to hand draw things like curvy roadways and what not. Love the idea.

OK, that will work. As for suggestions...

"One way" pointing backwards.
On the back right-hand side: "DO NOT PASS"
On the left rear: "PASS WITH CARE"
Anywhere: "SPEED LIMIT (top speed)"

Re: CHANGED AGAIN! THIS WILL BE IT!!

Thanks for the suggestions guys! While I am at it, I'll return the favor with some more progress pics!!

CABINET DOORS INSTALLED.

I decided to make the interior doors from scratch. I started with 2x4 lumber because it was just barely wide enough for the door handle hole. Then covered them with 1/4" oak plywood on the outside and luan on the inside.

Cutting out slots for the hinges

Drilling for door handle

Stained

Finished with trim

Installed new Jensen Heavy Duty bus or truck radio from Heavydutyradios.com with PA so I can make announcements and annoy my passengers.
Quite pricey though. It is quite rugged and does just about everything.

Installed stairwell handle. $17 from ITC Incorporated (ebay store that sells marine and RV stuff).

Cleaned up the driver's cockpit area. Used the same flooring material as the stairwell.

Some rope lighting

Decided to put the cushions on to see how they looked.

Dinette bench

Working on some trim

I guess somebody does NOT like winter.

This is a bus I drive part time. Its a college campus shuttle bus. This would probably make a good skoolie huh?

Well thats about it for now. Getting close to being done with the interior. Then once the weather starts getting nice, I can start working on the exterior.

Oh.. I may NOT be doing the sign theme after all. I just think painting all those signs would take me FOREVER. SOOOOOOOOOO.... WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS IDEA????

Thats it for now!!

Looking good, love that grab handle and the beadboard paneling.
That paint scheme is much better, I might have to steal it.

It's hard to tell from the picture, is the grab handle the same on both ends?

Re: CHANGED AGAIN! THIS WILL BE IT!!

The door built from scratch looks great. Never thought about that but building a custom sized door is so obvious and simple enough.

Back to the sign theme, you could paint one that reads "CAUTION NERVOUS MOTHER DRIVING" on the rear door as a Partridge Family tribute.
