Cloud 9: My first schoolie
Hello all,
After much time and deliberation I have chosen and begun transforming our 1983 International into a home for all occasions and a all around hobby to keep my little mind from running amuck. I am proud to be part of a greater community of free thinking, creative, crazy people...
I have enjoyed and look forward to this adventure.

Re: Cloud 9: My first schoolie
I just purchased the bus in April after a long look and much thought on the type/ price tag. Paid 1600, with rebuilt engine, carb and Hi out put alternator. I will keep the pics comming I have done a few things already and plan to fill in the gaps this week so everyone can enjoy.
p.s. I gotta paint this thing any advice? I'm thinking an enamel paint maybe perrywinkle in color I'm going for the tranquil look.

Re: Cloud 9: My first schoolie
After a good look into flooring I have decided and installed a laminate wood floor. I decided to lay a foundation of 7/16 ply underneath to smooth out the ridges and bumps and I was happy but perhaps not as happy as my wife at the end result. What you think? I hoping going flooring first will help when putting in the interior of the bus.

Re: Cloud 9: My first schoolie
floor looks awesome man. so easy to keep clean and all. yeah, that lock idea was ingenious. works really well. just a word tho...be sure where the outside handle goes for the key to fit. mine works, but i have to unlock it and move the handle halfway, then pull the key out. its really no big deal. after about a dozen times opening it, it is second nature, and there really was no place else to put it, but if you have another place to put it you may want to. but i will tell you what....it is a really really clean look and it works like a charm. would do it again in a heartbeat. cant wait to see more pics man.
as for paint...i am gonna go with a cheaper auto paint and spray it. i have thought long and hard about it, and if you get an auto paint that is an acrylic enamel it dries to a gloss finish by itself and doesn't take clear coat. you can pick it up pretty cheap ($40 a gallon or so). i have never done a full car, but have done some panels on my old IH Scout. it seems pretty straight forward even to do in the open air (not near stuff you don't want paint on tho....haha). if you have a compressor its pretty easy. i got a spray gun from harbor freight for about $40 and it works well with my compressor. should take about 4 gallons i suspect. then you have a paint that will last a lot longer and look a lot better than a brush or roll on job. i brushed and rolled my last rv. it looked good, but i want it to look better. just my 2 cents. haha.

Re: Cloud 9: My first schoolie
Seth,
welcome! My husband Mark and I have been 'off the board' for about a month going to pick up our 'crazy' project so i'm just now getting back to everyone's updates. Your floor ROCKS! that's what I plan to do with ours too, makes it look all custom and clean! Our bus however is going to be done in pieces, while we're in it so that'll definitely be a challenge. As they all did for me, I'm welcoming you to the madness

Re: Cloud 9: My first schoolie
Ok, more pictures. Johnathan here is the ugly lock as promised.
Here were my weekend project a hitch to haul our geo and or a small trailer. I had a friend buld me the bracket after some thought and ingenuity we cam up with this design plus a gusset to strengthen the unit.
I also fixed the roof vents the previous owner had installed there were missing covers and many of the crank mechanisms were stripped out. I also got those maxx air vent things and I must say the general temperature inside the bus has changed not to mention there are less of the state birds in the bus as well.(mosquito's)
Workin on walls and cabinets still will post more pics as I can.

Re: Cloud 9: My first schoolie
Ok, big jump but a buddie who does Auto painting is hooking me up with a paint job/ education in painting. I have no pictures ready yet but I wanted to clue every one in. I'm thinking two tine metallic blue and gray with a white roof. It was odd pulling the nose of the bus today and really getting into the nitty gritty. I have a few questions.
1. It is necessary to have reflectors on a skoolie?
2. Any suggestions on replacement lights? For markers and rear?

Re: Cloud 9: My first schoolie
I have finished the interior.
Here are some pictures... Were definitely into open spaces so I hope you can appreciate the no wall thought to our moving loft. We decided after a lot of thinking that although we have kids were just more comfortable and enjoy the open feel of our space. So where are the beds? We have Cordaroy bags. (bean bags with mattresses made of lazy boy foam in them) They are our furniture other than a few camping chairs and a fold up sewing table that fits between the bench seats.

Re: Cloud 9: My first schoolie
It's beautiful in it's simplicity!
(Not to mention that there are less corners for little heads to be bumping on while they're toddling/playing.)
I think it looks nice, relaxing and quite accommodating!

The sudden move
Hello all sorry for the massive delay in writing. Much has happened like we have moved to Portland Or from central Minnesota. I have never been more proud of my bus! It did everything I needed it to plus it did it in style with much class. So here is the low down I was in process of painting the bus. I finished 2 days before we left and I'll include photo's. We had no problems on the road it got consistent gas mileage plus it pulled of the continental divide and 4th of July pass without any problems loaded plus pulling our family car. All I have to say is My bus Rocks...

Re: Cloud 9: My first schoolie
I like the visual... My kids think your idea is a hit and cheered at the idea. Originally my paint scheme was different but I found some recycled paint(left overs) mixed up enough for the body(a small crap load) and shot it. I really like how it turned out but I will probably rename the rig. There we Go please all help me rename this bus. I'm drawing a blank...
What you think all give me some idea's
