We haven't figured out a great name for the bus, these things take time. Here is the bus... an '01 Blue Bird Front Engine; Cummins 5.9 with an Allison 2000 Series Transmission. Dakota comes a salt-free home and only has 127k miles
My brother-in-law is a diesel mechanic, the cummins that is what is called a long block. They are heavier than the ones in the consumer pick-up trucks but, share the same mounting platform. Translation - parts and mechanics will be available anywhere I need them. As an example, one of the u-joints was loose. Being the excited and proud parent, I tore into it... I had the drive line dropped in 45 minutes and the first auto parts store I went to had the replacement u-joint. No calling, no searching... I just walked into autozone.
Anyways back to the build... We are going to go slow, this is a rec vehicle for us (family of 4) and their is no need to break the budget rushing it out. We'll start car camping out of it as soon as the seats are delivered to the scrap yard. After that we'll take it one project at a time.
Picked her up in North Dakota and drove through the mountains of Gallatin, Yellowstone, Tetons, and Wasatch to get home in Salt Lake City. Here are a couple of pics.
