Re: Fear Fair Prison Party Bus
I'm really surprised there is a toilet on that bus. An ex-con I worked with long ago told me about a ride he had on a prison bus. One man per seat, with one ankle chained to the leg of his seat. No talking was allowed, and it was a long and boring ride. At one point they pulled to the shoulder of the road and were told they were taking a restroom break. The guard at the rear of the bus placed a 5 gallon plastic bucket and a roll of toilet paper in the aisle and it was passed towards the front, being used by anyone who needed it. Since the convicts had one ankle chained to the leg of their seat, it was tough to get out in the aisle to use the bucket. When the bucket made it up to the front, the guard up there dumped it out on the shoulder of the road and the bus started rolling again. Hey kids, stay out of trouble.

Apologies for the lack of updates, we've been tied up on some other projects. We did get the lettering finished on the outside, however.
We hope to finish up the stereo installation in the next couple of weeks and take the old girl out for a spin.

That looks awesome, but is it legal? I'm guessing you'll get pulled over by curious cops all the time! Hehee.

Re: Fear Fair Prison Party Bus
I've been plugging along on a few projects.
The first was a generator for the bus. Since everything onboard except two lcd tv's and a neon sign are 12vdc; it really didn't make sense to me to run an a/c generator and then turn right around and convert back down to 12vdc. So I searched around on the web and found a site http://theepicenter.com/tow02077.html that sells brackets to make your own dc generators. So I am building a 165 amp dc generator. This will let us run all of the stereo and lighting wide open while parked, plus if you ever have a dead battery and can't start the bus, just fire up the generator.
First step was to assemble the motor and alternator and begin building a drawer and frame to hold the generator underneath the bus. This is the same motor Honda lists as being in the EU series generators that are so quiet, but I suspect it will still be a good bit louder than those.
Using some heavy duty drawer slides, the generator will just slide out to be started, fueled, etc. I'm going to mount it right beside the battery box on the undercarriage.

Re: Fear Fair Prison Party Bus
I've also been working on replacing the bottom step in the entry stairwell, which is pretty eaten up. You can see from the photo, it was in sad shape.
I made a cardboard template and attempted to make a step pan myself from 14 gauge, but that just didn't work out. Luckily a web search led me to Doug at Custom Bus and Truck Panels. http://busandtruckpanels.com/.
These guys are awesome and after I sent the dimensions, they are making me a replacement pan that I can basically drop in. None of the bus parts sites had stairwells for Amtran, so these guys were a great help. I should have the replacement part in the next few days and I can get the step repaired and install the new tread I ordered as well.

Re: Fear Fair Prison Party Bus
I did learn a lesson the hard way. If you disconnect the air ram that closes the door, then later start the engine... when air pressure builds... boom/crash. I already replaced the glass in the door.
On a happier note, the neon sign that goes on the back wall above the bar came in. It's really cool. The number is our 'Fright Line' that we use in our advertising as a number to call for information about the haunted house.

Re: Fear Fair Prison Party Bus
Getting near the end of this conversion. This past weekend I managed to get the generator and cage installed on the undercarriage.
Installed cup holders for the driver and passengers in front of the cage and also a 12 volt outlet for gps for the driver. I am also finally sorting out the issues with the sound system and lights... taking it out this weekend to a concert I believe.
Also, I finally got the neon sign installed behind the bar. One final little detail to work out on the electrical for that and I should be good to go.
