Flooring
Hi all,
Ok I have had my bus close 8 years now and with the near completion of the racecar that is to go inside it, the human area needs attention.
My wife and I have been talking about what we want to do with it. We are looking at a hardwood floor or pergo floor in the human area.
This raised questions of will the bus flex and twist to cause the wood or pergo floor to pop or crack?
Also is there a better flooring?
The rear will either be painted with anti-slip in it or a anti slip tile.
I would like to hear your thoughts and what you are using.

There's some really nice vinyl that stuff would flex along with the bus I'm considering going with something like that

Laminate flooring "floats". It should be able to tolerate the flexing typical of an RV, especially one built on a bus chassis.

You are talking about the stuff that "snaps" together or is it nailed down?

The stuff that snaps. You might use a few nails to aid installation, but they won't affect the ability of the floor to go with the flow, so to speak.

Rusty you are correct I will be giving them as I work on the bus.
Yes very few posts and 8 years. The bus ran and drove fine with normal maint and it was just me so didnt need a lot and I was building a race car for the bus to haul around. Oh lets not forget 5 years working out of state, 3 jobs in 3 states, moved 3 times and got married. Now that I am married and the car is mostly done and it is time to make it more legal as an RV and my wife wants some comforts when at the track...
forgot, also maintaining 6 vintage cars and racing them with my dad took a lot of time. But we want to use the bus for the vintage races too.
So my wife and I are talking about different things. We will start on it in the early spring.

It's all good, just nosy on what some of you fabricators can build.
I used to race, but after awhile it just felt like I was going in circles.

Ok so here are you pics.
The Baja is shown in the bus and a side shot to show the size or height of it. Had that when I was in AZ car was a total blast. The purple on is also sold. Needed that money to fund the small business I started, finish my house to sell and get some $$ for the white and blue car. That is a 71 Dodge Demon. It is a bucket list car. Been 5 years so far. Should be done in the spring. The one pic in the building was taken yesterday at set up day for PRI. Big convention for performance and racing in Indy. Great honor to be asked to bring the car there.
The other cars not in the pics are the 71 Torino GT(stock), 37 La Salle dirt modified, 37 Ford Standard dirt modified, Vega and Pinto asphalt modified, 40 Ford Coupe and 37 Standard modifieds from the 50's these run both dirt and asphalt with a tire change. All but the 40 Ford were built and raced on the east coast, tracks like Riverhead, Riverside, Stafford Springs, Waterford, Manadnock to list a few. The dirt cars fit in the bus, the old flatheads fit too. The 2 asphalt modifieds fit but we need to take the tires off one side and put skinny ones on as they run 15" wide tires on all 4 corners.
So been busy with the cars. The Vega, Pinto and 40 Ford are race ready.
The Torino needs work as it has not been driven in 2 years, fuel system flushed and carb rebuilt, the La Salle needs a clutch, one of the standards needs the brakes bled and one needs the steering box replaced. The Demon still needs a lot of work but I work on that during the week and the others on Saturdays.

Maybe...lol
the Duster (Purple) was a 73 had a 511cid running on E-85. It was street driven and we feel once fully tuned would run in the 8.60's in street trim.
The Demon (white and blue) we are hoping will get into the 7.90's but will be happy with 8.10's.

My 0-60 time was about double that. '72 in booger green, 225 cubic inches, and 5 of the 6 had compression when I got to the Navy.

Wow ! That's what I was hoping for. You do some real fine work. Those are some mighty quick times, but I bet it feels a lot longer when you are in the hot seat !
Thanks for sharing.

I have people cursing me because the duster was a rare car, 340 4spd red with white stripes and white interior. But it was cut up before I got it...
Best that \6 is still running, they were hard to kill.

Thank you. yes they are pretty good. I am happy if I can get there with the Demon.
It is a long time in the lanes, the pass is over quick.
here are some detail shots of the Demon. The cluster is restored to factory, the heater and radio will have factory delete plates in them. The engine should make about 900hp at 9000rpm.

I've never seen one with stripes. Personally, I'd hate a white interior. Wouldn't be white for long.

Probably not. The Navy towed it and it wasn't worth the impound fees. They either crushed it or turned it into a reef.

If you look at the Duster closely you can see the factory stripes painted on in purple pearl.
Got you, but those \6's are hard to kill.

Oh I know the engine can't be killed. I got the bright idea of scrapping the literal crud off the inside of the valve cover. Stuff came off looking like the inside of an old smoker. Everything was fine and dandy except for the chunk I must have missed. Oil light came on a few days later. Oil level was ok. Drove it for about two weeks knocking. It finally passed its kidney stone and the light went back out. Mine was a POS; body was wrinkled, floor board was rusted thru, and I never changed the oil (just added oil). But even I couldn't kill that engine. Still started every time even when the Navy dragged it off.

\6...the best engine Chrysler ever built. Had one in an old '66 Dodge Town Wagon I used to haul my race bikes. Had 99K on it when I bought it, drove all over the US in it for 17 years. Had 387,000+ on it when I sold it without ever doing anything but but points, plugs and belts and rebuilt the brakes a few times. Didn't smoke or use oil and ran like a top. Simply unstoppable and never left me stranded. Would still have it but Dodge quit making brake parts.
