Dick, those are great pics of your Border Collies. I have known one in the past. They are so very intelligent. Somewhat noisy this one was though.

Re: Hank,youlubdabus

You guys are really making me miss my mutt! He went (along with everything else) to the ex. And while it was likely the best call for him, I really do miss him. He was a true Heinz 57 variety with a lot of Pit, tons of personality and 80 pounds of pure muscle. Just maybe the happiest damned dog I've ever met. We named him Mike after the cop who was tending him at the time we found him on the street. Lucky for him, officer Mike loved Pit Bulls.

Maybe someday soon when I hit the road full time I will "find" another such buddy to travel with.

Re: Hank,youlubdabus

Tango, That dog, Mike, looks like he is smiling. My dog, Buddy, was very strong when he was young. Here is a story from a few years ago.

I always grab a good hold of the loop at the end of the 15 foot rope leash I use for walking the doggies.

It has been raining here all last night and is still raining.

This morning, I have Buddy on the leash. He is a very strong dog. We are walking down a slope in the field.

He spots a deer. I don't see it. I am just looking at the sky.

I hear a grunt from him, and the next thing I know, I am sliding down the hill, holding the rope while Buddy drags me at least 50 feet through the wet grass.

It was like the wild west when people would get dragged through the dirt while roped to a horse.

Fortunately, it was wet out there, so I slid easily.

It took ten minutes to find my glasses.

I did yell at Buddy, but he is just a dumb animal.

Now, my pants will never be rid of the grass stains.

A whole new meaning to "Slip And Slide".

Mac was 14 when he died, I don't think I heard him bark more than a dozen times. I'm not sure I ever heard Nell bark.

Truck load bars are great for temp supports and they adjust to just about all that I have done so far. I have used 1 1/2 inch steel tube to frame in the door and windows also. The walls are 1 1/2 pink foam then I put furring strips on top of that and will add 3/4 inch foam. Then plywood will follow. The floor is the same 1 1/2 pink foam 3/4 deck plywood. The floor surface I found rolled rubber flooring like that on agility courses. The stuff is 1/2 inch thick and very comfy to walk on.

Thank you Tracy... very helpful. Found the pics you posted
You did not run in to any fuel tank issue at that Location? Did you have to add add'l support to any where other than at the entrance, i.e. , under the bus at frame structure?

Sorry, no dog stories yet, still engrossed with my build.
(maybe later...;P)

Re: Hank,youlubdabus

I had to build a frame for the steps out of 1 1/2 inch tube. I cut the floor to the shape that I wanted and welded it in then welded my sheet metal over that. The sheet metal that I used was 18 and 20 gauge. It is tough to bend it that is why I cut small tabs to get it to bend then weld it up.
I have tar paper on the steps until I get around to getting them covered. You can see that the steps are not full steps and that was done to make clearance for the spring perch. So I could still grease it drop a spring whatever. The fuel tank has enough room that I can drop it if I need to. No support was welded or bolted to the frame. The underside of the steps and sides are insulated from the out side with 1 1/2 foam and then covered with sheet metal. The thing you have to watch out for is don't go much lower than your wheel center with the bottom of your door, or anything for that matter. It will make for loud bang noises followed by a bad moment in your trip... The problem that you had spoke about your window framing limiting your design. Put some pictures up of it for us to look at. One of the next major projects for me to add to the pile will be a new over insulated sound sucking engine cover.

Thanks Lucky for bringing this thread back. I hadn't seen Newfiedogs' latest and best photo. That bus doesn't even look like it came from a school bus.

Maybe we should kick him out of Skoolies.

What!
The bus is purely the result of MANY, Thinking beers...and design arguments (creative discussions).
Boot me from Skoolie. Your pokin the tiger, Ok so I'm hooked, ya got me. This is the only place where I can find those that share the same, madness.
I have been busy and will get some interior pics up soon. I am working on finishing the bathroom, can't wait for the warmer season to get here. I have been taking pictures of how the soup holding tanks are being built as well. The split 55 gallon steel drum plan is what I have done and I hope it works. Pics to come soon.

Have not posted in a while,
We moved and have been busy getting our new place in order. We now have a place to park and work on the bus inside. Also the place that we purchased is a kennel property. We have 6 Newfoundlands now and are able to help out with helping out fostering a few rescue newfs as well. We are starting to board dogs and all is good. I am getting back to working on the bus here and there but it has been a fun journey and would not change a thing. Those that are just starting out don't give up on your
project it is so worth doing all of this.

A place to work on the bus inside is amazing, I bounce from one piece of the puzzle to the next because thats just the way I work but came to my senses and decided I needed to do things that I can't in cold weather so the two 100 gal tanks are almost finished installing underneath and I hope to paint the outside in two weeks. Hope you can make some progress soon.

Hi newfiedogs - came across your thread showing pics that you've moved the door. We are drawing up some plans to do and wondering if your build is on Instagram so I have better pictures to reference? Having trouble finding and of your pictures past the very early stages of this project. Any help or information you can provide on that process would be greatly appreciated!
