Thought i would share what we found to work like a champ..
6” grinder with a wire cup !! Just hang on and be very precise. I was attempting to post a video of us doing it however the site wouldn’t let me. Says invalid..

The weather here is supposed to warm up by Monday, thus staying warm on Tuesday. The conditions are not ideal, but they are workable then. Our concern is when (not if) we get into cold weather the thermal break stays in place in stead of separating and causing irritating squeaks and other annoying issues. The cooler weather will allow slightly more foam to be sprayed into the thermal break than in the summer (thermal expansion/contraction). We experienced the foam actually contracting the winter after we sprayed in the heat of summer in Houston. So we're hoping the slightly cooler temps will allow more foam to be put in and prevent contraction. Time will tell.


Oh, and btw, with the foam already in there HF does warm up nicely in these colder temps, but it's easy to see where the hat channels are allowing heat transfer through the roof. In addition, wife is working on thermal curtains to prevent further heat loss. She found a pattern we both love and she's working on them for the windows and windshield. Pics to follow when she's done.....

Hey All!


Well, here are pics of two days worth of taping and plastic covering in a few pics. I've been in some contorted positions trying to get this done before tomorrow. Now all there is left to do is the front where it's an easy masking. All the hard work is DONE!!!!


We'll have more pics after the spraying is finished. As for now, enjoy the labors of our thermal break....

The thermal break is now sprayed in!!! YAY!!!!


Let me tell you it makes a HUGE difference between staying warm and staying cozy!


Went to Home Depot to get more supplies and get electrical going inside. Today is a rest day. Wife fell over last night as we parked the bus and trailer. She's ok, just bruised up. She's using her walker now to give her hip a bit of a break instead of her cane. Life goes on.


Tomorrow is clean out the trailer and start putting in our shelving. THAT will help tremendously with organizing our tools and equipment to make this build go more efficiently. I'm looking forward to having elbow room and more storage space so I can warmly and more safely work on interior installation. But in the meantime, here are the pics from the spray foaming, enjoy! Oh, BTW, some kitty pics for entertainment purposes as well.... In addition, my wife took the interior pics as I was working on something else, so that's why the pics are larger this time, sorry about that......

I'm distracted by the 5/4 ton truck pic -- know that paint job all too well...

Foam job looks really good -- very even -- with the mesh it will certainly be very permanent too.

Just what I need -- a p'up truck that gets worse mpg than my bus...

JK -- it's a good thing you're as far away as Kansas or I'd be tempted to take a look... wait! does it have the onboard welder & compressor?

It still has the compressor, but not the welder. The mounts for the welder are still there though. The compressor is intact and ready to use.


Now are you more tempted? No reasonable offer refused.....


Oh yeah, it also has a custom made flat tow-bar. Put the transmission in Park, the transfer case in Neutral, and with a 2" ball, she's ready to be flat towed away....

I had a M1009 for a while, such a fun truck. When I got to Florida I took the roof off and built a kayak rack for it, used the rifle holders as fishing rod holders... I always joked that I had a 4x4 diesel v8 convertible with a trainer hitch.

The M1031 is the main support vehicle for the M60 Main Battle Tank until the M1 Abrams MBT. These vehicles were rarely used more than 2K miles and then surplussed to the DRMO for sale. A close friend of mine got this one at auction dirt cheap because it had 12K miles and had seen heavy service. I got it from him due to his needs changing. My needs have changed. Although I LOVE this truck and all it can do, I can't keep it due to my lifestyle going from 9 to 5 into work camping. Wish I could keep her! She'll make someone a very happy camper (pun intended).

The M1031 is a 1 ton Chevy truck with a suspension and axles intended for a 2 ton commercial truck. This M1031 has 3 front and 11 rear leaf springs PER SIDE. The Deuce & 1/2 is a 10 wheel all-purpose vehicle with a multifuel engine, 5 speed transmission, 2 speed transfer case, and many options depending upon purpose. I've owned one. HIGH maintenance brake system. Royal PITA to keep going without issues. The air-over-hydraulic brake system is fraught with problems in the main master cylinder. Headache to properly maintain, and worse to change out.


Sold mine the moment the opportunity came along.

The newer M39s that are starting to get auctioned off are substantially nicer than the old Deuces. Most of them have Cummins 8.3 or CATs, conventional air brakes and can do 65 mph.

They are a lot more though (expect to pay $15Kish for one). They are also all automatics (forget which Allison trans they have, might be the HT750 that you see in fire trucks)

Just a quick update.


We've been sooooo busy with building HF and have sooooooo many pics to post. However, we need to be out of this apartment on Friday. We're packing up our stuff we're keeping, getting rid of the rest for free.


Tomorrow we'll have shore power AND internet on and functioning. Once we're moved in we'll have more time to catch our collective breath and post the miracle of the past few weeks.


The bedroom is 50% finished, and will be done before Friday. The rest of the build-out will continue into February and March with paint scheduled for mid April.


These are exciting/stressful times. As we continue with our build in February onward, we'll post more frequently. Just right now we're under a hard deadline.
