Hydraunic Floor

Using up some half day vacation days, making progress on the floor.

2” XPS Foam is down (except the last piece, waiting until the back is cut open).

Routered 3/4” wide x 3/4” deep grooves in the foam.

I am not doing zones per say, just valving off the back half of the bus for when it is carrying the car.

I made transfer plates out of flashing.

Watch out, the raw unpainted stuff they sell most places is too hard to form. This stuff comes from a roof place, and is dead soft, and super formable.

I did make a fixture to make the shape.

Don't know what you are covering it with. My experience is anywhere there isn't a transfer plate the floor will be much cooler than the places that have it. I think if you add transfer plates everywhere there is a straight run you would benefit. I also put the piping much closer together, three inches I think. I used a much tighter radius on the curves than recommended with no adverse effects. Some pictures here.

Thank you for the information!

I can add transfer plates, but my radius’s are what they are.

The pex is 1/2” ID. and is pex-al-pex, it was crushing at the 2 1/2” radius I used.

I had the pex already so I used it. Next bus I can use smaller tube.

I really appreciate you sharing your experience! I was using the spacing that an old book I have said.

I was resistant to add spacers because of the cost, but it sure would be silly to have regrets for not spending another $118 on a big scale investment without the ability to change it.

I will go buy another roll today!

I will have plenty tnen, and I can go OCD.

Since I am manufacturing the plates, I can make custom widths to fill where there might be larger gaps.

It makes sense that pex in styrofoam does not act as a heat sink. So the transfer plates are super necessary.

Unless of course I was using gypsum and tile as a flooring. Then the heat from the tubes would soak the material.

Styrofoam will absolutely not do this. And neither will plywood

My vinyl flooring is so thin that it will not likely spread out its heat.
