Kentucky to New York in a 1990 GMC B6000
 Meet the new (old) bus.
We bought it in Kentucky and immediately drove it the 14+ hour journey to New York. No problems. Wish us luck with the dangerous 8.2L Detroit.
Just wanted to start this thread in this very active community.

Haha! No no. I've just read and spoken to a lot of diesel heads that describe the Detroit Diesels as a ticking time bomb. Most notable to me is the four bolts in each head instead of 6 or 8 or 10.

How's the top cruising speed? What plans do you have for it? weekend camper or digging deep for full-time living?

Haha, top cruising speed is set at around 60mph by some kind of governor. I haven't done much digging but I'm rather sure its a rev-limiter. West Virginia had some hill climbs that I was down to 30mph in the slow lane.
Myself and 5 friends went in on the purchase together and have plans to convert it into one third couches, bookshelf, and bar. One third sleeping quarters, and one third mobile shop for bikes and cars.
This at least for the near future is just a weekend project that we can have fun with, drink some beers and make some exciting journeys in the pursuit of "free stuff" on craigslist.

Mine is similar. 5-speed manual, though (I'm assuming you have an automatic w/o OD). Sounds like your set-up will suite you fine. I'm in the same boat. It would be nice to go faster, but long road trips aren't in my immediate plans.
Best of luck on the clubhouse/workshop! Sounds like fun.

Nope. It's a manual also. Ton of fun to drive too. I have a new respect for truckers now that I took this gorgeous 17 ton hunk of metal on the highway.
The dog-leg shifter took me for a spin. Twice when I was going on autopilot when we first got it I put her in 'R' at a stop signs.  It's a learning experience.

Update time! This weekend we went out camping in the Catskills. Upon doing the research we decided to tackle the interior ceiling. In doing research, and talking to the 'paint guy' at the Home Depot, we decided on a metal etching primer and a matte all-weather paint because of the condensation that collects on the ceiling in the morning. All in all the goal was to get a soft, light scattering ceiling so that when the time came to install the mood lights we could get good lighting throughout.
