Have not done much since my new tires and wheels. Money and health have taken the front seat. The bus is currently parked waiting for warmer weather.

I thinking of swapping in a LS 6L plus a 4L80E transmission since my bus is basically a gas bus. Hard to find a mechanic shop willing to do a safety inspection on a propane bus. Has anyone done such a swap?
It will mean...
taking out a gen II 350
taking out a Allison AT545 transmission
replacing 100 gal propane tank with gas tank

I already plan to rewire under the hood and dash, steering column, brake upgrade, upgrade radiator/trans cooler, steering pump/steering box

I think I found a LS 6 LQ4 in a wrecked 2003 GMC Sierra HD. Whole truck for under 1000.00. Will know if the deal goes through in the next few days.

The LS 6L8tr deal crashed.
Been looking at maybe a Cummins 12 valve p pump. But I think it would run at 1/2 the rpm the transmission and rear end are designed for. Any thoughts?

The 2500 Chevy's and GMCs are all over the web. Keep looking, and I bet you find what you want. I have thought about doing the same swap, and also wondered if others have done it. Keep us in the loop.

The Cummins 5.9 runs nice around 2200rpms at cruise. I expect your 350 is turning close to 3,000rpms? Do you know what your rear end gearing is?

With an overdrive in the trans you might be fine with your current rear. There are gear ratio calculators online find one and play with the numbers.

My rear is 5.14 to 1 that gives me 2500rpms at 60, and for a gas engine that is good. bit fast for a diesel, if no overdrive in the trans.

At a rear of 7.20:1 final transmission gear of 1:1 my engine is running at 4100 rpm at 60 mph. Too fast for a diesel. Max for a gas. Looks like the whole drive train should be investigated.

My dad built a chevy bus like that back in the early 90's. Its a 66 passenger if I remember correctly. Had a 350 motor and a 4 speed manual trans when he got it, went from that to a big block. It was geared for 55 mph and he wanted to go faster and get a little better mileage so he bought an International truck that had a 3208 Cat motor with a 5 speed trans and a 2 speed rear end and swapped the whole drive train into the chevy. Before he bought the truck he made sure it would go down the road 75 mph on the governor as thats what he was looking for. It really fills the engine bay up and he had to cut to firewall out and build a doghouse around the new motor. It gets about 10-11 mpg pulling his Jeep behind it. Too bad its so expensive to do but a Duramax/Allison swap would be really cool to do!

Not to get off the subject, but can you tell me the width of the windows on your bus? I fell in love with a '72 chev. bus, several years ago, but can't remember the window dims.

The "normal" windows driver's included are 25 inches, the last rear opening window is 32 inches. All are 24 inches tall with 3 inches between.

My situation has changed I not longer have an income or health to finish my bus.
I need to sell my bus. I will sell it for the price of the new tires and wheels. I have also lost its parking spot.
